Adult ADHD Resources in Toronto
ByI recently spoke at a conference in Toronto for professionals who deal with ADD/ADHD, and who wanted to learn more about working with Adults with ADHD.
One of the participants suggested that it would be helpful to have a spot for people to share their contact info and what they do.
I would be very happy to help to facilitate that with this blog post.
My invitation – if you provide an ADD/ADHD resource in the Great Toronto Area, please enter a comment below – with your contact information. I recommend a website or phone number. (If you post your email address, there’s a chance that someone could come to this site and ‘harvest it’, meaning start to spam you! NB You do have to enter your email to post a comment, but that doesn’t show up on the site)
So – if you provide ADD/ADHD resources in the Greater Toronto Area, particularly with adults, please leave a comment below describing (briefly):
- Who you are
- What you do to help with ADD/ADHD (hopefully adults)
- How people can learn more about you – i.e. website link, phone number
- How people can contact you
Please note that all comments are moderated – so they will not appear on the blog right away, and any comments deemed to be ‘spam’ will be deleted, and comments may be mildly edited if it’s deemed necessary.
I hope this helps!
Best,
Dr. Kenny

I have been looking for a Doctor that specializes in Adult ADD in the Barrie area for quite some time. If you have any information or contact in this are I would really appreciate the information.
Thanks
I have been trying to find a doctor or therapist for adult ADHD (with dysthymia) in Brampton for a long time now. After leaving the Peel Child and Adolescent Clinic I struggled tremendously throughout college but got assistance through the disability center at my school. Now that I am working and not receiving any professional help my life has disintegrated and simple day-to-day tasks completely overwhelm me. I feel unable to take care of myself. If there are any resources at all for adults in peel region please let me know. I would be willing to work with an ADHD coach or commute to Toronto as well. I have no health insurance so affordable options are appreciated but I’d go into debt for help at this point too. It shouldn’t be so difficult to find treatment as an adult. I feel like that poor Trix cereal mascot–Sily rabbit, ADHD is for kids!
Sadly, there is a drastic shortage of doctors specializing in ADHD in the Toronto area. In fact, from the information I received from doctors, hospitals and other medical practitioners, there is really only one who currently is not taking any new patients. I was able to connect with him only because of a very well connected family doctor. While his help has been reasonably successful, his time restraints has limited the effectiveness of the treatment. Its sort of like, here’s your pills. Don’t call me, I’ll call you.
Allow me to introduce myself. I am an ADHD coach trained through the Adlerian School of Professional Coaching in Toronto as well as JST Coach training specific to ADHD. I have been associated with Edge Foundation, an organization that provides ADHD coaching to young people in colleges and university. An investigative research study has just been completed through Edge Foundation studying the effectiveness of coaching with students diagnosed with ADHD in several US Universities and Colleges. The results will be published in September. I am also a special education teacher with decades of specialized teaching in this field. I find working specifically in this area to be a tremendous challenge as well as very rewarding as I support young people in the life skills necessary to launch successfully into their adult lives. Please do not hesitate to contact me either through e-mail or telephone. More information is available through my web site at http://www.studentsfirstcoaching.com. Edge Foundation is http://www.edgefoundation.org
I forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Sincerely, Ann Imrie Howlett
Two contacts:
1. Barrie: Dr. Timothy Bilkey (in a mall about 5 minutes’ drive from the Bay).
2. Toronto: Dr. John Rossiter Thornton (Yonge and Summerhill – s. of St Clair).
Bilkey will diagnose adults (takes three appointments to diagnose – expensive test but necessary). Thornton will medicate and do therapy (also is up for SPECT, if you wish it); OHIP covers him.
