Are You A Failure?

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

This is a great video of the importance of failing.
If you don’t ever fail, you can’t succeed…
I think this video is a great reminder for everyone, not just people with ADHD.

Lines That Divide Us - Bullying Video

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

A friend of mine, Michel Fortin, shared this video on his blog. It is very powerful, and has a significant implication for those with ADD or ADHD.

This video demonstrates the awful aspects of bullying, how many students it affects, and how difficult it can be emotionally.

The fascinating thing is that this video also shows a healing process which is going on for the students taking part in this exercise.

I encourage you to watch this video - and to share it with kids and teens who have experienced teasing and bullying. They will learn a lot.

Visit The Hallowell Center With Me…

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Dr. Hallowell and I just met at the Hallowell Center a few days ago - to put the final plans together for the ‘Unwrapping The Gift of ADD‘ program which will be launching in a few days (The website will go live on Wednesday April 16th at 12 pm EDT, 9 am PDT).

I flew down to Boston for the day (and then had to drive to Sudbury, MA to get to Dr. Hallowell’s office). I thought it would be fun to bring my camcorder - and let you join me for this journey. In this video, you’ll get to:

  • See Dr. Hallowell’s office
  • Listen in as I ask him some of the questions that have come up about ‘Unwrapping the Gift of ADD’
  • and hear more about this program

Even though you may not ever be able to visit the Hallowell Center - you can check it out with me on these videos…

This video runs about 15 minutes - so it had to be broken into two parts (Youtube only allows 10 minute videos…)

Enjoy!

…and as always, please leave your comments below.

Can You Give Me A Boost?

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Hi,
I’ve done something a little different here.
I wanted to introduce you to a Web 2.0 site - which allows US - the users - to determine which health resources and stories are relevant.
I’ve created a video to explain all about this. (This video has me talking, and then you can see my computer (it is very high tech :-))

Here’s what to do:

  1. Watch this video - it is just under 10 minutes
  2. Go to People’s MD and sign up for your own account
  3. Visit the different resources, and vote for, or ‘Boost’ the ones that are most helpful
  4. …And, I’d love it if you’d visit my personal guides, and boost the resources that you find helpful.

Enjoy, and thanks for contributing to the evolution of health information online.

Misquoted On The News…

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

I hate when this happens…

The news was buzzing today about a British story that ADHD Medications don’t work at all.

I am currently in Montreal, for a meeting of the Canadian Academy of Child Psychiatry. The TV news channels were calling myself and other ADHD experts to get our take on this new story. I interrupted a lunch session to be interviewed (and it had to be quick, because I was presenting a research workshop on ADHD at 1:45 pm).

When the story aired, my interview was edited enough that it didn’t represent what I said.

So, using the power of ‘new media’, I want to bring you the ‘rest of the story’.

Please watch this YouTube video so that you can understand why ADD/ADHD Medications still work, and hear the full version of the story:

You can learn more about medication for ADD and ADHD by downloading my 25 page free report here: Medication Mastery.

So remember, ADD/ADHD medications still work, and you need to monitor for stunted growth - but please watch the video above to learn the facts and speak to your doctor if you have any questions.

All the best,

Dr. Kenny

ADHD Video: Dr. Kenny interviews Adult ADD Coach Bonnie Mincu

Friday, August 31st, 2007

On a recent family vacation to New York City, I had the privilege of meeting Bonnie Mincu, a respected Adult ADD/ADHD Coach. I met her for breakfast at a great little place in Greenwich Village. Although we have spoken on the phone and by email, this was the first time that we met in person. After our discussion - Bonnie graciously agreed to let me interview her on video camera.
I asked Bonnie about coaching for Adult ADD/ADHD, as well as her home study course for ’self coaching’.
Watch the video to learn more:

Does Vyvanse Work?

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

Vyvanse is the newest medicine for ADD and ADHD. It uses an innovative approach so that it is an ADHD ADD medication that cannot be abused.
As a Canadian doctor, I am not able to prescribe Vyvanse, because it is not yet available outside of the US.
So, my biggest question is: Does Vyvanse work?
I have read the research, I have heard the presentations, but I don’t have real life experience with this medicine.
This is where you can help me out.
I want to hear from anyone who has tried Vyvanse, or even considered trying Vyvanse.
Just go ahead and enter a comment below.
Please realize that when you click submit, it will take a little bit of time until your comment reaches my blog. That is because every comment is moderated (i.e. I want to make sure that there are no spam comments, and nothing hateful, racist, etc.).

I found this video - where someone shares his or her experience with Vyvanse - and you can watch it here:

Now, it’s your turn. Please type in any of your own personal experiences with Vyvanse so that the readers of this blog can benefit from your knowledge and experience. I know that the readers of this blog span the whole globe - so if you have experience with Vyvanse, all of the readers of this blog (American, Canadian and International) will appreciate your contribution very much!

Thank you for your help,

Dr. Kenny

Chris Kaman: Pro NBA Basketball Player Has ADHD

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

I came across a great article and online video about Chris Kaman, the LA Clippers Center. He has ADHD.

Chris is having a great season, and is thought to be one of the up and coming star players. He was brave enough to let people know that he has ADHD.

I am happy to see that another celebrity is coming forward to share his experiences. My hope is that he can be a great role model for kids out there who may be struggling with ADD or ADHD.

Previously, I wrote about Ty Pennington having ADHD, and I hope that we can see more celebrities sharing their personal experiences with this disorder, and how they succeed with it.

To see the full story, (and to watch a video) visit: Chris Kaman

Please forward this article to any kids who love basketball, and have ADD or ADHD themselves.

ADHD and Divorce

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Adult ADD or ADHD can be very challenging on relationships.
Often, the ADD/ADHD partner’s disorder can get in the way of the relationship.
Issues can arise such as: disorganization, procrastination, as well as impulsive decision making. All of these can lead to significant strain on a relationship.

Research has shown that the divorce rate is higher in couples who have a partner with ADD/ADHD. It can also be a cause for quiting a job, or impulsively ruining a career.

The important thing for adults with ADD or ADHD is to follow these steps:

  1. Get a proper diagnosis
  2. Look at all treatment options - medication, therapy, coaching, etc.
  3. Nurture good communication with your spouse/partner - so that you can avoid any impulsive decisions which can ruin your relatioship

I know that sometimes people have trouble finding a doctor who can diagnose them. One trick is to contact the nearest medical school - they may have a doctor who is knowledgeable in this area. You can also ask your family doctor.

Even without a formal diagnosis of ADD or ADHD, you can certainly develop great strategies for dealing with your ADD/ADHD traits. Coaching for ADD can accomplish this. I recommend reviewing materials at Bonnie Mincu’s site: Thrive with ADD. Bonnie has also created a self coaching program - to guide you through the steps that you need to follow to improve your functioning. You can view it here: Self Coaching for ADHD.

Finally, I will share with you a recent news story on ADHD and divorce.
Enjoy!
