As far as I know, there are no plans right now for the patch to comet Canada. And I don't think that you can get it from the US, unless you go to the US and get a prescription from a US doctor.

Any word on progress on bring the patch to Canada?
My almost 6 year old has Autism Spectrum Disorder which I can handle but it is the ADHD part of it that has brought me to the end of my rope.
He won't take any type of medication (including Tylenol) but our doctor has strongly recommened Concerta.
The patch would be a lifesaver for our family.
Is there anyway to be able to order it from the states? From all the reseach I've done, the answer is no but hoping for a little miracle here.

Hello Dr...

I have been reading all of the comments and,, for the first time I think I see a LITTLE light at the end of this really dark tunnel. My wonderful daughter is 10 yrs old and has ADHD, among other behavior issues. She is on Concerta but like many of the stories WILL not swallow the pill. Every morning is a struggle which triggers fights and the whole day is turned up side down. I live in the US, and I am going to speak with her Dr. about the patch. Reading all of the comments had really made me feel like we are not alone, Thank you for making this hard time a little easier.....

Do you have any idea why Daytrana is being held up? My 5 year old has just been diagnosed with moderate/severe ADHD with severe ODD, so we're just in the process of evaluating him for medications (among other treatments). He won't even do fun things I try to get him to do, let alone take medication. A patch would be such a relief.

I am currently living in the US and my son uses Daytrana and is doing wonderfully. We are considering a move to Ottawa next year so I wanted to make sure he could stay on the same meds. I phoned Shire and was told Daytrana is not available in Canada and they do not plan for it to be available next year. Ugh.

Sophie,
The application for the daytrana patch for Canada is on hold - in other words it may not come to Canada.
We will have to wait and see.

Dean,
I believe the Daytrana (ritalin patch) will come to Canada in 2011 at the earliest. I don't think that approaching your MP will make a difference - as I don't think that it's the government interfering with the process. We likely just have to wait. You may consider a sprinkle capsule to help in the interim.

Doctor,

Is there any updates regarding the adderal patch coming to Canada? We are in need of a patch, as we are experiencing the same issues that parents have written about above. Does Health Canada not realize what strain they are putting on the system and the parties involved? What is it going to take for them to approve the patch in Canada? Will speaking with my MP help? Your advice and feedback is appreciated. Signed, a parent that has run out of options.
