Does Vyvanse Work?

By Dr. Kenny Handelman

Vyvanse is the newest medicine for ADD and ADHD. It uses an innovative approach so that it is an ADHD ADD medication that cannot be abused.
As a Canadian doctor, I am not able to prescribe Vyvanse, because it is not yet available outside of the US.
So, my biggest question is: Does Vyvanse work?
I have read the research, I have heard the presentations, but I don’t have real life experience with this medicine.
This is where you can help me out.
I want to hear from anyone who has tried Vyvanse, or even considered trying Vyvanse.
Just go ahead and enter a comment below.

I found this video – where someone shares his or her experience with Vyvanse – and you can watch it here:

Now, it’s your turn. Please type in any of your own personal experiences with Vyvanse so that the readers of this blog can benefit from your knowledge and experience. I know that the readers of this blog span the whole globe – so if you have experience with Vyvanse, all of the readers of this blog (American, Canadian and International) will appreciate your contribution very much!

Thank you for your help,

Dr. Kenny

As a responce to some of the people that are experiencing problems associated with not wanting to see there friends and secludeing yourself, your taking too much medication and may find that a small anti depressent will work wonders. Hyper focus can actually be used to your advantage as long as that focus is not on negative things that occur in your life. Since everyone deals with problems and issues being on an anti depressant will help to not get stuck focusing on the negative.

My experience is that people are on way too high doses, may benefit from an anti depressant, needs more education, has to eat a high protien diet and limit sugar, transfats, sugar substitutes, and dyes. Also you have to exercise, it helps push more blood to the brain, take omegas or fish oil and also take amino acids. A food alergy test wouldnt hurt either, it will help understand which foods do not work well with your body.

Other then that learn to be as organized and clutter free as you possibly can.

22 years old and just started taking Vyvanse 30mg a few weeks ago. First attempt at fixing my ADD. I really like this medication because it comes on subtly and isn’t really intense. I feel like i have control on where and what i focus on. It’s really changed my future goals in school and has stabilized my mood; i think that is because my thoughts aren’t jumping around all over the place anymore. The only problem I’ve experienced is physical fatigue and reduce desire to eat (but not reduced appetite, i just want to keep studying lol). I actually sleep better than I did before the medication; my mind usually has too much activity and keeps me awake. It also helps me feel less like I’m stuck in a daydream. I think i might need to increase the dosage though because it doesn’t seem to be effective the past few days.

My son is 7 years old and was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome and ADHD he has been on Vyvanse for almost a year. He takes 20 mg daily. At first he did get the loss of appetite and was emotional but about after a month he was back to his old self….this medicine has helped my son focus in school tremendously and I would recommend it to anyone!! He is still his goofy random self and the little kid I love but now he is able to focus on the stuff he needs to, to get things done!! LOVE this medicine!!

    • Mbrum1970 says:

Hi, I’m glad to hear that this is working for you. My son is 6 and is ADHD and we are in the diagnostic stage of what he has, but his docter is leaning towards Autism Spectrum disorder. We have been on a roller Coaster with him since he was 2. Now that he is in Kindergarten, he is having outburts and being extremely impulsive and has a hard time maintaining his focus. We just started Vyvanse 4 days ago and I’m hoping this is going to be the right medicine for us. I have noticed he is not eating and acting a little bizarre at times but so far, we had a Great day at school just after the 3rd day. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

  4. Katy says:

I recently was switched from adderall xd 30mg to vyvanse 70mg. I love it!! It definitely does take longer to kick in than the A but V works much longer!! On A I would get moody and depressed and anxious when it was wearing off. On V it lasts me until I put my head down and I have no Problem sleeping. The only issue I have had on either of them is if I skip it on let’s say Monday, then I’m exhausted the whole day and when I wake up Tuesday I have to force myself out of bed. Other than that, I’m a new person and I didn’t realize I needed to change until I started the meds. But I love life so much more now.

  5. Marisa says:

I am 15 and started taking Vyvanse in February 2011. At first I was on a 20 mg dose, but since I take it around 7 am for school it barely lasted until 1 pm. I then upped the dose to 30 mg and now it lasts 12 hours. It is so nice to have for school- my notes are so neat and I remember everything- no falling asleep in class anymore! Also as a note- Vyvanse only works best with people who have ADD and aren’t simply inattentive due to other issues. For example, my brother took 20 mg Vyvanse for about a month after being misdiagnosed with ADD, and it caused him to have extremely unstable and heightened emotional reactions. He is now diagnosed with Sensory Integration Disorder.

my son is 14 yrs.old and just been diagnosed with add, he started taking vyvanse few days ago..30 mg..and after two weeks the dose will be up to 50 mg..i wonder if this is too much…he seemed didn’t notice any changes except that he has a hard time sleeping…went to search more info about this med..got scared of the side effect..not sure wether i want my son to continue taking this…anyone out there who can tell me or experience taking this meds pls..let me know…

  7. SDUKES says:

Vyvanse – my son started taking this at age 20. He had been diagnosed with ADHD & Asberger’s when he was young. I didn’t medicate him. We tried behavior therapy, biofeedback training, and anything that wasn’t a drug. As an adult he decided to try medication. The doctor prescribed Vyvanse. My son praised this medicine from the beginning – and still does. He started around 2008. A few months after starting the medication he insisted that I see his doctor, too. Yes, a middle-aged mother of four who had never been able to hold a job finally agreed to seek help. I was diagnosed with Adult ADHD, PTST, Bipolar disorder – and I don’t think the doctor is through finding out everything I have. He did put me on Vyvanse. I started it & a new job about the same time. Every year the insurance company tries to give me a hard time because this medicine is for children (they say). I noticed when I started the medicine that I was feeling more focused, less stress & agitation. When I had to go without (thanks insurance) my sense of well-being went away along with my job performance. We haven’t had any bad effects & have been taking since 2008.

  8. Nick Browder says:

Hi, my name is Nick, and I’m a 17 year old male in the North Texas area using Vyvanse for educational purposes. This fall I will be going into my junior year in high school. The beginning of my sophomore year my grades were in the F to B range. I was prescribed Vyvanse by my doctor to help raise my grades and control my ADD. The very first day of taking the 30 mg capsule i felt like a new person. I finished all my homework (including a 4 page report for AP World History) all in a day. Also, I could feel my brain concentrating on one thing, and not wondering around. At the end of the school year (roughly 2 months ago) my grades raised from F’s-B’s to ONLY A’s (had one C, but the class was an advanced computer class for Juniors/Seniors only).

Although I have accomplished all that with Vyvanse i have become dependent on the drug to keep my grades up. Without the drug, I sleep all day during class and pay attention to nothing. Another side effect I found displeasing was that when I first started I rarely got any sleep, and would find myself unable to fall asleep until 2 or 3 A.M. But that soon stopped after a week of taking the drug, and I returned to falling asleep the usual time I did before taking the drug (10-11 P.M.). Also, I did not take the drug during the weekend, because I was not in school, and saw no purpose to take it. During the 48 hour weekend I would sleep a total of 20+ hours combined. The drug pushes your brain the full amount of concentration your brain can handle for 16-18 hours a day. After 5 days of my brain being pushed that hard I had no choice, but to recover and sleep that long.

Other than those negative side effects of the drug, I find the drug to be VERY VERY useful, and I would recommend the drug to people with ADD or ADHD struggling to cope with their defecit disorder and/or need academic help.

    • Anon says:

Thanks for sharing; I found your experience helpful. I’m 21, and I’m currently having trouble sleeping on Vyvanse, but hopefully that will end soon.

  9. John says:

I have been taking Vyvanse for 10 months now and love it. It keeps my thoughts in order, and keeps my relaxed. When my mind tries wonder off it cant. Im 22 and currently on 40 mg, it takes about 2 hours to fully kick in but It last all day.

  10. Benjamin says:

I have been taking Vyvanse for 2-3 years. 70mg. My grades are brilliant, Focus was increased, but I have one problem with the drug, When i am off it. I do nothing. I sleep and eat. I never changed the dosage, maybe I should but 70mg just seems right. I hate that i have to use the pill to stay focus. The education system of today is old. It was designed in the 18th century and carried out for the 19th. I think millions of kids need this type of medication because school is boring and video games and tv are fun. Well if school was fun, then drugs like this wouldn’t be needed.

    • Nathan says:

I am glad I am not the only one who feels lazy when not taking the pill. I am on the 70mg pill myself and just like you said I feel very focused when taking the pill but when I do not I am lazy and do not do a single thing. I agree with the education opinion as well!

  11. Heather says:

I’m 29 yrs old. I was diagnosed with ADD as a child (around age 8). I thought I was managing my symptoms fine- but have come to realize I thought wrong. My therapist suggested I take medication for ADD and recommended this drug. I started 30 mg of vyvanse last week. I noticed its affect with in 20 min. I was able to concentrate at work for the first time ever. I got caught up with two weeks of work that I had been behind on in just the first day. The second day the medicine wore off after 3 hrs. I’m on day7 and still trying to figure out the right dose, or if its even right for me. I do love the ability to work and focus. But I’m not so fond of the coming down part. Its like being on a crazy roller coaster… I am having the typical loss of appetite, dry mouth, and hard time sleeping. I’m still trying to decide if I like it.

    • Adam says:

Yes some people experience a comedown. Finding the right dose will help, it should not ware off after 3 hours though, that is very fast for a long acting stimulant. The “comedown” symptom may get better after taking the med for some more time, or it may get worse.

I consider it a temporary depression, the key is to get the dosage right with your Dr. so that it happens at bed time when you are going to sleep.

The question is, if it does not get better and you have tried exercise to help deal with it, does this side effect outweigh the benefits of the medication.

I think people need to realize that it is not supposed to make you bionic, it should be subtle and help you concentrate.

Some patients end up taking a low dose SSRI to help combat the “comedown type symptom”

  12. Alex says:

13 yrs. old, started dosage (30 mg) in mid-2010, not exactly sure when, (ironic) but it has done wonders! In class, I would be focusing my hardest, answer #5, then, suddenly, we would be on #18, and I had doodles all over a piece of notebook paper. NO LONGER! Now, I can keep up, stay relatively organized (not ADD related messiness, just messy) plus, I only had side effects when I started, for 2-3 days, which were kinda horrible, but totally worth it.

  13. Nora says:

We found that using Melatonin which is a natural product helps with sleep a lot. We use 2, 500 mg’s or 3, 0f the 3 mg’s as he is only 9. We also try to make sure he unwinds before bed sometimes with a nice bath or some exercise also hot chocolate. A bed time story or just a pleasant bit of music or conversation. I f you are older and don’t have allergies, cammomile tea helps.

    • Amelia says:

Hey! Melatonin works wonders for me! I normally take one 5mg tablet about an hour before I want to fall asleep. If I’m overly anxious, I will take 2. It puts me right to sleep and I wake up every morning feeling refreshed.

  14. chris says:

I have been on vyvanse for about a year, and have had my dosages increased twice since then. I have barely noticed much of a change in my attention span, especially when having a conversation. My mind just zones out when someone is talking to me and whenever they are talking to me, it does not sink in with what they are saying, or i can’t remember what was said shortly thereafter. I have to go back to my doctor this coming week and will ask to have my dosage increased from 50mg to 80mg to see if i can focus longer during the day at home, or at night when i am at work in hopes it works. If not, then i am going to have to see what my next step is going to be.

    • larissa says:

What were your results? I’ve been taking vyvanse 50 mg for a week now. I start work at 7 so I take it around 6. I find some moments I amvery focused but other times I space out. It has def started to get me more on track at home. With kids n all their school work being a single parent working 10 hr shifts. I have no issues falling asleep. Just wondering what ur outcome was as it sounds similar to mine. Did a dosage increase work for u or did u change to another stimulant? My friend has been on adderrall for years n it worked for her.

  16. ConcernedMom says:

My 5 year old son has recently been diagnosed as having ADHD. After trying a couple of meds previously, the Dr. put him on Vyvanse. He started Vyvanse @ the 30mg dose which was determined to be too high for him, as he became obsessive in starting & completing only 1 task per day (ie: looking @ books one day, coloring pictures one day, etc.). He also could not sleep more than about 4-5 hours per night at that dose. After a week on 30mg, the doc lowered his dosage to 20mg per day. Right away we noticed a huge difference, he seemed to have the appropriate focus, was able to listen & follow directions. His sleep improved as well, he was able to sleep for a full 7-8 hrs each night. After about 3 weeks on this dosage though, we’ve started to notice some strange eye movements, and other tics. He says he feels fine, and does not seem to notice the tics, but these are things that are very noticable to anyone who’s interracting with him. I’ve been told by Dr. that these could be normal side effects of Vyvanse, and I’ve also read that Vyvanse could CAUSE Tourette’s Syndrome. This concerns me greatly, and because of this we are no longer going to give him Vyvanse. I’m looking for other parents who have had their little ones on this medication, and would like to know their experiences with it.

    • Leigh says:

Your story is exactly the same as mine. My 4 year old started off with the 30mg dose which made him extreamly emotional. Moved him down to 30mg. Works much better, but he had begun blinking almost uncontrolably for the last week. I didn’t put 2 and 2 together until many others began to notice this and ask me if I had noticed he was blinking constantly. He said he didn’t know why he was doing it. I am very concerned and am considering taking him off of the medication. It just makes him so happy that he can get his work done and keep a green light all day. I don’t want to go back to him having to sit during each activity his class has because he may not finish is work because he can’t focus. Or that he is disturbing the class because he is making silly noises or not following directions. He is just so proud of himself! I feel torn between good behavior or medication side effects.

      • Rhiannon says:

You story touched me. To the point I felt led to reply. I am 27 I have been taking vyvanse for 8 months … I am in the mental process of wanting to get off VYVANSE… it is making me stupid. Prior to taking, I was a beautiful Healthy woman with a short attention span. Something really had to be interesting in order for me to pay attention and grasp, whatever it was… Now I’m very forgetful and over focus on random things that keep me from accomplishing my original plans. It has affected my work and all aspects of life… I have been lowering my dose and the time has come to get off… I have a 4 yr old son … Who is rambunctious as ever .. But if I Set him in front of u tube (transformer video’s)how to transform them and he’ll sit for hrs… But here is where your story touched me … I am familiar with drugs through my family and friends struggles … It breaks my heart to here such young little people with out a choice taking the very same drug i am struggling to get off of … Because of the people in my life I recognize the difference between then and now… I get a rush off of the vyvanse so I can understand people wanting dose increases.. The fact is it’s a amphetamine like meth amphetamine. I found out what the extent of the drug was after I dropped off my script off in one city and attempted to pick it up in another .. The only pharmacy that could fill it was the one with the hard paper copy…would you give your child a dose of meth? Think not… My stomach clinched with the thought of giving my over energized son vyvanse … I though it was helping me focus until I realized it was holding me back …. Clear mind ,body and soul is the key .. Lol lots of patients and direction…

    • Jessyca says:

We just started our 5 year old on this med yesterday. His first day on it he came home with a conduct check from school from talking to much and not working. He took it today and had a great day. I noticed he did better at the grocery store and wasnt touching everything or going nuts. He is getting a little emotional or over sensitive right before bedtime but its seems to be literly like 20 -30 minutes before bed so its not to bad. He is on 20 mg right now but I think we may end up upping the dose a little. How long was your son on the med before the tic started? I know this post was a while ago but I am just curious since we just started it. Our behavior therapist said that sometimes ADHD meds can cause tics you may not have noticed or werent bad to get worse. I def am intrested in how your son is doing since he is the same age as my little one.

  17. BB says:

I’m 16 and was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 13. I was on Strattera when I was first diagnosed but I hated it because it made me groggy and affected my appetite. It didn’t affect my attention span or concentration. I went off it after a few months and I’m just now trying new meds. I started Vyvanse a week ago at 20 mg and doubled it when it didn’t work. I feel the same, possibly a little calmer, but hyperactivity wasn’t the problem, focus was. I don’t know whether I should keep taking it, switch to a new drug, or just accept that nothing works on me. Help! I don’t have much time before school starts.

  18. Kelly says:

Cubeth, Actually 70 mg is the maximum dosage. My dr. says they are still doing studies for adults on a higher dosage but has not been approved.

  19. Kvonbitz says:

I have battled with Add all my life, but never took medicine. I am 40 years old and for the first time I am trying the medicine route. Learning new material is a constant struggle, so I will keep you informed of my progress. Vyvanse is new to me, I am ready to read a book and not think about oh look a bunny, or read a book and look at the ceiling etc etc etc…. My wife loves my goofy self she hopes it does not change my funny ways, oh by the way while i was typing this I was thinking about hamburger and heard a truck go by, blah blah blah…

    • Stu says:

I am 33 and trying Vyvanse for the first time today, just diagnosed. I would love to hear your experiences as an adult trying it for the first time.
It hasn’t really been what I have expected so far. The initial reaction was one of restlessness/anxiety and definitely not the attention focusing that I thought it would deliver. That being said, I do find myself much better able to focus during conversations, but on the work end, today was definitely not one of my most productive (I write credit reports on banks for a living, so not particularly exciting work.)
Took it at 5:30 in the morning (30 mg) as I was preparing to head out to work, started feeling it by around 7:00. But by 7:30 I felt mostly very anxious and nervous. This probably wasn’t helped by the fact that I had a lot of anxiety about trying the drug for the first time and what it could mean, coupled with being in a relatively new job (6 weeks now). But this morning was not what I had hoped for after reading other people’s reviews. I know a lot people say that the first few days are not indicative of what vyvanse is typically like, but I would love to hear if you or anyone has had similar experiences.
Maybe the dose is too high?

  20. KAylyn says:

I have just recently started to take vyvance for ADHD and add and in my opinion it does work i find it easier for me to pay attention and stay focus and calm and ruff situations. I noicted the first day I took it is started to work with in 15/20 mins..

  21. Julie Stanley says:

My 14 year old daughter started 30mg Vyvanse just under 2 weeks ago. So far, the results have been dramatic and positive–as reported by both my daughter and the staff at her residential treatment facility! She is now feeling that she may need a higher dose which is being discussed next week, but she is excited and feels that she has control over herself now and can focus on school work (she reports increased productivity and grades) and even an improvement in her willingness to do the work. I am impressed and excited that we may have finally found something that works for her after years of failed medication trials with Adderall,Ritalin, Concerta (and others I can’t even recall).

  22. Kelly says:

I can’t say enough about vyvanse. My 13 year old was diagnosed with severe ADD when she was about 7 years old. I saw other kids drugged from meds like Ritalin and was determined not to do that to my child.

I put her on the non stimulant straterra, hired tutors plus she had aides in school and I took her to a clinic which specialized in ADD/ADHD. Summers were taken up with study camps, math camps, writing camps, you name it, we did it. The kid worked so hard, always had a good attitude when I dragged her an hour across town for tutoring, but the focus just wasn’t there. She may as well not have been on any medication nor had any outside help.

At my wits end I finally agreed with our family doctor to put her on vyvanse during the last month of school last year. Within the first week I saw an improvement. I was amazed when she had an assignment and she almost became unhinged trying to come up with an idea for it. Normally she would have shoved it to the back of her mind and taken an F. She got a B+ on it and was disappointed. Still, it was at the end of the school year, to late to see how the medication was really going to work.

This school year we’re almost at mid terms and she has A’s, B’s and a C. normally at this time of year she’d have a C, D’s and F’s. She is running cross country this year and is motivated and organized. I could kick myself for putting her (and me) through so much stress all those years.

  23. Dean says:

I am 43 and have never been diagnosed (but have suspected I had it as a child) with ADD/ADHD Inattentive type until seeking help. I am not going to a PDoc. I just retired from the military after 22 years and have had trouble in academic situations my entire career. After retiring I have decided to go back to school and am taking a heavy science load.

Started with Adderall IR 5Mg without much success. Instead of upping the dose, I was given Ritalin LA (10Mg) with 150Mg of Bipropion SR @150 x 2 a day. My wife kept asking me what was wrong because I seemed agitated. Started doing MORE research and was going to ask for Vyvanse or Stratterra (because I think I don’t tolerate stimulants well).

Got a script for Vyvanse 30mg and my mind is still all over the place. I am getting so frustrated because eI am not doing well in school (again) and after a week of Vyvanse my focus seems to be getting worse. I have a 30 day supply and will continue just to see if I am just going through an adjustment period and go from there.

I have just started a Paleo diet to remove gluten, grains, SUGAR and stick to lean meats and the few veggies I like with some fruit to see if that helps. Some of my research has led me to believe that diet plays a factor and mine has been HORRIBLE for the last 20 years.

    More to come..

  24. Laurie S. says:

I’m 42 years old and have struggled with ADD all my life, although I never took med. I decided to pursue this after my son, who is 8, was diagnosed with ADHD and was prescribed Focalin XR. I saw the amazing positive change the medication made for him, and my mom commented to me that when I was his age, the school wanted them to put me on med (at that time, Ritalin was the only choice) but they didn’t want to do that. Boy, I wish they had!!! I daydreamed my way through K-12, can’t remember most of it, then struggled my way through 7 years of college, dropping out of classes, changing majors every few semesters….and never did graduate. My ADD has caused problems in relationships, jobs, you name it.

So, at this late point in my life, I decided to finally do something about this. Got prescribed 70 mg Vyvanse. The first few days were AMAZING. I never realized that my brain was like a scrambled egg, with a huge jumble of thoughts flying around at random, crashing into each other. That’s just how it always was, that was my ‘normal.’ But within 30 minutes of taking the Vyvanse, my thoughts were suddenly slowly, deliberately marching though my head in a very organized, very controlled fashion. Wow!!! Everything seemed to suddenly be in sharp focus – almost over-focused. I could concentrate on things, remember things, plan my day and then stick to it – because I remembered the plan and didn’t get so distracted. It was like a miracle!

I’ve been taking the Vyvanse for 3 months now. As my body has gotten used to it, that ultra-focused feeling has gone away. Most days, I can’t even tell that I took it, although my concentration is still way better and my thoughts are organized, not jumbled.

At first, I had the usual side effects – trouble sleeping, loss of appetite, dry mouth. I’ve learned that I can’t take it much after 8:30am, or I’ll still be awake at 2-3 am! I still have the suppressed appetite, although not as pronounced as at first. I also still have the dry mouth and am thirsty a lot. But, what a small price to pay for all the benefits!! In some ways, I feel like I got a new life! I just wish I had done this 30 years ago, maybe I wouldn’t have frittered away half of my life!

  25. CR says:

I am a 41 year old female, have been taking 50 mg Vyvanse for 4-1/2 months. It does a great job for me for 4-6 hours but I crash very hard in the afternoon. To the point it’s a little scary…like I could fall asleep at the wheel. I used to work out at least 5 days a week & now barely have enough energy to make dinner let alone run 6 miles. I’ve tried running at different times of the day but feel like I am going to hyperventilate if I’ve taken my Vyvanse. The exhaustion & lack of motivation to exercise has really made me wonder if this is all worth it. The positive thing is that my business has doubled & I’m able to accomplish a lot more during the day & am much more patient with my kids. Anyone have suggestions to manage the exhaustion? I’m supposed to be training for a half marathon & feel very disappointed that I can’t seem to get out…

    • Runner Mom says:

I felt the same way toward exercise. I have run two marathons and have been an avid runner for years. I felt scared to run at my regular pace bc my heart didn’t feel right (as if unregulated or similar) once my heart rate started increasing. Could hardly finish two miles. Anyway, I realized that my energy was so low bc my eating habits and water intake were completely off. I started forcing myself to eat and drink PROPERLY and everything got better. I run about 3 miles and do a lot of resistance training. My weight is pretty low and I’ve been trying to get back to my pre-vyvanse weight (5’4 118lbs) but I’m still bouncing between 5 to 8lbs from it. It makes me want to stop taking the vyvanse though every other aspect of the drug has been incredible…it’s not the weight itself but the feeling that this can’t be good for me to be this thin. So, all of this to say that my energy, focus, sleep & attitude are all improved now that I increased my food (vitamins too & obviously C blocks the of vyvanse so i take it before bed) fluid & exercise routines. I am planning on talking to my doc at my 3 month follow up about training for my next marathon. I take 30mg and never ever thought I’d take a drug to help me through this problem that I have clearly had my entire life. I’m just hoping and praying that I don’t end up with long term side effects like some of these people post. I’m hoping that I can decrease my dosage to 20mg and still function/focus as well as I do today.

  26. Amelia says:

I am hoping someone can help me! I know everyone reacts differently to medications, so I don’t expect everyone to feel the same. I’m a 35 year old female who has dealt with ADHD all my life, but was never treated for it until now. I knew I had it all along, but I was hoping as I got older it would get better, but it hasn’t. Plus not really having family support with the issue growing up didn’t help either. I was always asked/told “what is wrong with you” or “calm down”. My grades in high school were not good and I couldn’t finish college although I’m very intelligent. I recently saw a Dr. about it and was diagnosed with ADHD and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. He didn’t want to treat me for both, so he asked which is more important to me. I told him I wanted to start treatment for my ADHD, hoping it would help my anxiety as well. I was first prescribed Ritalin, took it one time and it was the worse experience. My anxiety immediately went through the roof. I cried all day and called my Dr. He told me to stop taking it, so I did. It took months for me to get him to let me try something different (he didn’t seem to want to listen to me, but I couldn’t go anywhere else since the county was paying for it due to me being unemployed). Finally after begging him and crying in his office for months, he agreed to let me try Vyvanse. So, I have been prescribed 40mg of Vyvanse to take in the morning. Today 9/25/11 was the first time I had my dose. I wanted to take it today to see how it was going to make me feel because I start a new job tomorrow. I want to be focused and calm, not all antsy and fidgety like I am all the time. I can’t be still and have a million things running through my head all the time. I hate when people are talking to me and I completely lose focus on what they are saying then have no idea what they are talking about. Anyway, there goes the ADHD in me :) . I took my first dosage (40mg) around 11am this morning. About an hour or so later, I started feeling like I was on a natural high. The natural high lasted about 30 mins then some anxiety kicked in. Now 2 1/2 hours later, I’m feeling a bit sleepy and want to take a nap. Can anyone please tell me if they remember what it was like in the beginning how you felt when you first started taking Vyvanse? I would greatly appreciate any feedback I can get since I don’t have a lot of people that understand what I go through. Thanks in advance!! :)

    • Amelia says:

Well, it has def worn off in just 5 hours. I could tell a huge difference, but now I’m back to being anxious and antsy, and unable to concentrate. I was hoping it would have a longer lasting effect than it did :( .

I take vyvanse myself and I love it! However I cant tell if its working for my son, He seems to think its not but I can not tell if its working for him. The adderall xr did not work for more than about three hours, after lunch, he would get in trouble at school

  28. Mark says:

My son just turned 10. He has been on every adhd drug on the market. He started Vyvanse this year. (WOW). He has done great. He missed one day (ran out) the teacher was waiting for me at pick-up and said he had a horrible day. She went on to say it was half way through the day before he told her he didnt take his medicine. In a small way Im glad, at least now she understands this is not his fault he needs this just to function. I hesitate to speak well of this drug for fear of jinxing it. Last year was a total loss to Intuniv what a pathetic drug.

  29. Holden says:

A girl friend of mine told me about it she had trouble with drugs and was trying to get back on track and started vyvance she’s been doing great and staing out of trouble. I’m 17.I told my mom I wanted to get on it cuz my grades have never been good was on the concerta family from 2nd grade till 7th grade then started on stratera was forced to take it didn’t do anything for me that I felt my mom told me it was working (wishful thinking on her part I think) took it for 8 months was sick of it so at dinner I would pretend to take it did that for a month then gave my mom all the pills she was surprised because she couldn’t tell a difference from then on she never made me take anything. I told her a few weeks ago I wanted to get on vyvance to focus thru my last year of high school and thru tech school… Started on 30mg 5 days ago. First day on it finished 2 pages of notes 2 work sheets for a class I was always sleeping in. Took a test in another class I slept in, got it back and I got an A. I haven’t slept more than 6 hours a night the past 3 days and doesnt seem to be workin as well with little sleep. I have noticed iv been very hostile toward people I don’t like the last 3 days but that might be due to me quiting smoking and chewing. I told my mom I wanted to get a higher dosage and legally I have to start on 30mg.

But yes it does work and will continue to take it.

  30. Ali says:

I now have 3 kids on Vyvanse. The oldest, who is a 16 was diagnosed with ADHD at age 4. He tolerates Vyvanse well and is on the maximum dose of 70mg. His ADHD is the hyperactive type and although they worked on his symptoms, he did not tolerate other meds as well. Stimulants can raise your heart rate and his was over 120 on Concerta. Adderall did not last long enough. The vyvanse is great. His heart rate is normal and there are is no rebound effect when the medicine wears off. It does affect his appetite though, and he often skips lunch. My other 2 children have adhd of the inattentive type. They take 40mg, and their teachers notice a marked improvement in their focus and attention: no more daydreaming. No side effects for the other two except very slight loss of appetite (they still eat some lunch).

  31. Kramer says:

I really don’t want to give my medical history, but I feel it’s part of it is certainly necessary. If you don’t want to read this whole thing, long story short, Vyvanse has saved my life.

When I was in elementary school, I got straight A’s. I was really disorganized and never really studied. I never had any homework because I would speed through it during class.

In middle school, my grades dropped like a rock but I got by. There were several quarters between 6 and 8th grade that I got straight A’s. I always hid my report cards from my parents unless they were really good. Usually, I started the school year off with A’s. By the end of 4 quarters, I was barely passing. I had teachers that would tell me to “shut up” when I would blurt out answers (frequently). School basically became boring for me.

High school was pretty much the same as middle school. I kind of played everything off like I didn’t care about school (because, unfortunately, it’s cool to do that). In reality, I was so bored off my gord, I couldn’t listen to anything. My mind raced at 1,000,000 miles per second. I guess at the time, I figured I was lazy. It didn’t make sense that I would be so smart in elementary school and not as an older adolescent. In essence, I graduated with a 2.5 GPA, and had a few quarters where I had over a 4.0 (Where was the red flag!? Thanks teachers…)

Anyways, college roles around and I start off with a 3.5 my first quarter.. After that, it was back to coasting at 2.5… Except now, I was getting frustrated. I started getting angry with myself (which started in high school). I asked to use the bathroom about 5 times a day just so I could walk around in the school. I was either doodling in my notebook, or making beats with my hands on the desk. I bounced my leg constantly… And I rarely paid attention.. Yet I was teaching the smart kids about concepts they didn’t understand.

I had the highest Midterm and Final’s grade in one of my college history classes, yet I got a C in the course because I mentally could not get through the book that she (history teacher made us read to write a report about. She e-mailed me and basically told me that I was one of the brightest, yet laziest students she’s
    ever had.

I ended up transferring to Ohio State University, and the wheels finally came all the way off. I was sick of getting these mediocre grades and basically failing miserably at life. I literally threw up my hands one day (2nd year at this school) and said “if I’m not going to pay attention, I’m not going to waste my time or money on anymore of this crap!” at this point I still had no clue I had ADHD.

I started living for the weekends. My room was a mess. My work performance was miserable, and if it wasn’t for my mother giving me a job, I would have been fired from at least 3 or 4 jobs in my college days. I drank heavily. I had no direction in life. I had never had a long term relationship in my life (thanks to my great listening skills no doubt). Friends were leaving my side left and right thanks to all the frustrations that surfaced during drinking.

Basically, my mom asked me one day jokingly if I had ADD. I started researching and such… Fast forward to now.

I have a Psychiatrist and Psychologist. I started on 50 MG Vyvanse for a month, and it didn’t last long for me (Im 6’2″, 205 pounds). So, we upped it to 70mg.

Here is everything I know about this medication (in regards to my symptoms which is the reason I posted all the crap before this).

In the beginning of 70mg, I was feeling INCREDIBLE, and then about 5 hours later, I would get incredibly depressed. This went on for exactly one week.

what people need to understand is that initially, you CANT think that the euphoria you experience in the beginning is how the medicine works. If you do, you will think it’s not working anymore and get extremely depressed (which is what happened in my case). Once I decided to stop self loathing because the medicine “wasnt working”, I got off my ass and started doing some work around the house… Then, a light bulb went off. The medication was working to perfection, right under my very nose. The medication reacts to what YOU CHOOSE to focus on. I was choosing to be a depressed bum, instead of concentrating on doing things, anything I wanted really.

so, I decided to start testing it. I started doing laundry, and literally started multitasking for the first time in my life. I started talking to people, and truly listening for the first time ever. I gained confidence and the medication started working even better. My room is clean, my car is clean, I don’t fidget all day long, and I don’t get up out of my seat every 5 seconds. Yes, I had a slightly decreased appetite at first, but after that initial week, I started eating like a champ again. I don’t snack anymore (i used to snack due to sheer boredom with work, and we get free food!) I have absolutely NO craving for alcohol. The medication works for about 12-14 hours for me. It is exceptionally obvious when it wears off for me. I don’t know if this is common, but I can literally feel my central nervous system clicking back to my ADHD self in a matter of a few minutes. I don’t really have a withdrawal period, it just kind of goes away.

In short, I’m very glad that I was diagnosed with ADHD and given Vyvanse as my medication. I have no desire to take more than prescribed, and my life has gone from a complete stall, to a complete rebirth. Everything from the way I act around peers (from immaturity, to whitty and kind of sophisticated) to the way I listen to lectures. I went from being 22 and slowly wasting away, to a bright, fresh 22 year old who has his entire life in front of him.

I’m pretty sure that’s all the information I have on Vyvanse from my personal experience. Can’t believe it’s not used in Canada!

I just started it today! I hope it helps me in the long run like it has for most of you.

  33. Toni says:

I am 49 and was just put on Vyvance. I have tried to take adderall for years but hated the way it felt. And the generic was even worse. Dr. Put me on 20 mg and I am so happy w/ the results! No jitters, no gloom, doom and despair. No crashing or feeling higher than the moon. Love love love it!

  34. Holly says:

I took Vyvanse for the first time last night in hopes to complete multiple projects due today for my college design class. I had heard word that Vyvanse helps you get work done so I mentioned it to a friend that takes Vyvanse and they gave me eight 50mg capsules. They then suggested that I take one for starters and when I felt tired take a second if I really had to. I took two 50 mg tablets straight of the bat and didn’t listen to what my friend had suggested thinking it would just make me stay up all night. I haven’t slept in over 13 hours and feel beyond wide awake. My mouth is dry, my ears are tingling, my vision is somewhat blurry, I feel like air/weightless, my head hurts a tad towards my left temple and I have no appetite what so ever..I just want to drink water. My speech is slurred according to another friend who stopped by my dorm, I feel the need to explain myself and keep myself occupied, my hands feel as if they are asleep, and my teeth are heavy. More of my body is progressively starting to tingle. Other than my symptoms, I managed to get not only 1 of my essays completed but 2, 3 sets of thumbnails at 24 drawings a piece (72 thumbnails all together), i read a book with 7 chapters, wrote 4 chapter summaries, and completed my finals all due at seperate times this week. Vyvanse has put me ahead of the game, I can get used to this.

I am a 33 yr old female that was just diagnosed with ADHD. I have never taken this type of medication before & just started Vyvanse 30 mg two days ago. First few hours were great!!! Afternoon wasn’t – I felt jittery & anxious. Today has been the same. Does this go away? How long does it usually take for your body to get used to the medication? Or does this mean this medication / dose isn’t right for me? Any help would be appreciated. THanks!!

  36. IlovemyADDchild says:

I am raising a 6 yr old boy who was officially diagnosed as ADHD in May of this year.

Since both of his parents are ADHD I began to suspect that he had inherited the trait when he was as young as 4. We spent the majority of his kindergarten year using every trick in the book to improve his focus and control his impulsivity and got nowhere.

After being diagnosed, we started him on Vyvanse at a 20 mg dose. After about 4 days of almost “zombie” like behavior we upped his dose to 40 mg. OMG…what a change. Focus was razor sharp, impulse behavior was curbed and his interpersonal relationships with his peers improved dramatically.

Yes, we go through “breakthrough” several times a week, but if I remain calm and remember that during those times I am dealing with his disability, and not with him, those episodes pass quickly. He has been at a 60 mg dose for about 3 months now and he is well and quite happy.

I do not regret the decision to have him medicated for ADHD. It was the right decision for him at this point in his life. If at any point I feel that we need to change direction in dealing with his disability, that decision will be made in conjunction with the experts I have come to rely on and trust.

This medication changed my daughters school experience exceptionally for the better. She is engaged and feeling encouraged that she can succeed. The school counselor has never seen such a drastic change in a student during her 10 years in the school district!

I am a 30 year old adult using Vyvanse. While the medication is working, I feel so much better about myself and my concentration is greatly improved. My problem is that the benefits wear off after 5 hours and I crash. My doc has upped the dose to 90mg, with the same result. Tomorrow I will start taking an additional 40mg at noon to make up for the wearing off effect of the first 90 mg. Feels like I’m taking WAY too much of this stuff, but my doc says I just have a fast metabolism….

  39. Julie m says:

It did not help my adhd at all,as an adult in fact I felt like I was on a benzo….i had work to do but I didn’t care if it didn’t get done I was just in a trance like state and then fell right asleep nothing was accomplished. Hate it

  40. Jeremy says:

This is my second attempt at meds for ADHD. I was diagnosed as a 15 year old but my mom decided to ignore it and thought I would grow out of it. I’m 33 now and still haven’t grown out of it. I have learned how to cope with it to a degree. I was put on welbutrin while I was in paramedic school which helped me focus but I felt like it dumbed me down. So my doctor prescribed me 30mg of vyvanse. I’ve been on it for a week and so far very happy with the results. I feel very calm and leveled out. I feel like I can process information way better. My wife has noticed a difference the first day because I actually sat in my chair and was able to sit through the tooth fairy with then kids without feeling like I had to get up and do something. The sides so far has been a major decrease in appetite which I’m aware of and force myself to eat healthy snacks and drink lots of water. I also have dry mouth throughout the day but thats it so far. I have 10x more energy throughout the day with increased focus. It’s a good level energy and not a jittery speed energy. I have gotten a few headaches but I attribute that to a major cut in my caffeine consumption. It goes away after a mt dew. Im slowly trying to Ween myself off caffeine. Ive been sleeping better then I have in years. I usually can’t sleep because I have so many thoughts going through my head at night and can’t stop obsessing about things for the next day because I feel if I don’t think about it non stop then il forget it by morning. Now with the meds when I go to bed it’s like my mind shuts down which is great and well needed. I will keep you posted after I’ve been on it longer and allow my body to adjust to it. But so far I’m very happy with it.

  41. Shelly says:

I am 37 years old. I’ve always had ADD, but never really did anything about it up until now. My Dr. prescribed 70 mg for me a week ago today. The first day I loved it! Was so productive got things done that I’ve been putting off for weeks. Second thru third day I was like a maniac. Cleaning, and organizing every room in my house. Cabinets and drawers. I was unstoppable. Sunday, I took it with a cup of coffee. DO NOT EVER DO THIS! I was once again a maniac cleaning again. Late that afternoon around 3 my head started hurting, my vision was blurry to the point I was spinning, I was so lightheaded. I ate something, which didn’t help at all. I didn’t sleep well at all. Monday I took it again at 6:30 am. By 1:30 it was wearing off. I couldn’t concentrate, focus or anything. I was in bed at 6:30 that evening, but of course couldn’t sleep. Called my Dr. and she said to open the pill, dissolve it in water, drink half that morning and half later on. So I decided to go pay her a visit besides making me clean like I was nuts I still couldn’t focus and concentrate. I was still having to read things 4 times maybe more to remember anything and was doing good if I could remember then. She put me on Straterra to take with the Vyvanse. She gave me a starter pack and said to play with the dosage. Take a Straterra in the morning then two hours later take the Vyvanse. Today the only thing I took was 18 mg of Straterra and stayed in bed ALL day and slept. I found myself extremely depressed which, could be from my work telling me they only need me “as needed” instead of everyday. The Vyvanse doesn’t last but MAYBE 6 hours if that. I’ve lost 14 pounds in 6 days. It’s cut my appetite, but not totally. But when I try and eat I can’t eat I can only eat super small amounts. Still not sure if this medicine is right for me. I like it when I first take it, but after a couple of hours i feel as if I can’t sit still. I have to be doing something and if I’m not I could close my eyes but not fall asleep. I’ve taken my daughter’s Adderall a couple of times. She’s on 25 mg and some days it works perfect and other days I could sleep. This is just really frustrating.

    • Natalie says:

I can relate to your struggle with this pill not lasting more than a few hours. When I first take vyvanse I seem to be great but after about 3 hours I am back to my cant sit still or focus self. I guess this is why it takes some time to get on the right dose to last a good part of the day. My son was on adderall and I did not like the effects it had on him so I have a slight fear of trying that. Hope you find the dose that works for you soon.

  42. roxanne says:

I am 29 years old and have been taking vyvanse for 2 months now and i absolutely hate it. After an adderall shortage and weeks for waiting for pharmacies to get their supply of it in, I asked my dr is there is anything else i could try. (side note- adderall and its generic equivalent- xr and regular, 10 mg, 20mg, etc- have all been nearly impossible for any pharmacy to keep in stock in my city. i have been told they are not being sent as much as they used to. i researched this online and found out it isnt only south texas this is happening too. in fact there are many places in america that have this shortage- and that scares me).

when i first started taking adderall 10mg 3 times a day, it would put me to sleep. after getting used to it over a 3 week period my entire life changed! i wish i had tried this out when i was a teenager, it could have saved so much struggle i went thru with work, and studies, and simple organizational things at home. Because of the shortage, as i said, i tried vyvanse and got nothing besides nauseated. ive been pushing myself the past nearly 2 months to get used to it (i figured if adderall took 3 months to be stabilized in my system enough to not knock me out than maybe i needed to get used to this) and all that has changed is i do not get as sick to my stomach as i used to.

vyvanse just does not have the effect as adderall did. i gave it a fair run but im thru trying. my dr is putting me back on adderall so now i just have to hope they have some in stock when i go pick up the rx.

perhaps this would work better in children and teenagers? its too bad it didnt work. it is alot cheaper then adderall is even with my insurance.

i wouldnt recommend this for adults with adhd that is severe enough to have an impact on everyday life… stick with adderall if its working for you!

20 years old, junior at Uni. Never taken any meds before about a month ago but today is my first day on Vyvanse. I was just diagnosed with ADHD when I told a Psychiatrist that school has always been impossible for me (studying, homework, lectures) and that i’ve made it this far simply Bullsh*tting and going on raw intelligence. He then analyzed me further and made the diagnosis.

Day 1 and I feel absolutely fantastic. I am focused, happy, and all around great. I am getting of Zoloft and starting Welbutrin as well (Zoloft was horrible for me, I ended up having a suicide attempt several days ago). I am happy for the first time in months. Thanks Vyvanse!

    • Rich says:

Be careful with Vyvanse and Wellbutrin. Drugs.com show this drug has alot of bad reactions with SSRI SNRI’s

      Best of Luck

  44. Nicole says:

I was diagnosed with ADHD at age 11. I am 16 now. I’ve been on Ritalin, Concerta, Metformin, Adderal, and now for the past 6 weeks, Vyvanse. I think the dose started at 20mg at each week increased in incriments by 10mg, so I am currently on 60mg. I also have Chronic Depression (untreated).

I don’t think Vyvanse helps at all. The blurred vision and never feeling hungry is annoying (the latter is also confusing). I still have incredible difficulty in concentrating and it almost feels like my concentration is worse. When I say sentences especially the last words are blurred and uncomfortable. (That might not have to do with Vyvanse, it has just been recently happening.)

My thoughts are more scattered and I feel confused and almost unstable sometimes. My thoughts are always scattered but I could sort through them decently and thinking/concentrating very hard could usually bring it back.

I’d forget the second half of my thoughts, then I’d remember, but instead of finishing that thought I’d overanalyze something, than out of nowhere, all these thoughts would bombard me at once and it feels like I have no way of getting any of them out so I’d just whimper out loud.

It’s worse, I’m forgetting where I’m going with most of my thoughts. It’s pretty horrible to the extent of being unbearable. Honestly composing this paragraph and the one before it was exceedingly difficult then it was before when I wasn’t on ADHD meds. It also wasn’t like this on Adderal.

And before, when writing things like essays or paragraphs, I wouldnt really notice the forgetting the second half of my thoughts, cause all I’d have to do is look at what I wrote before and then I’d remember. Now, at this very moment on 60 mg of Vyvanse, when I do that, either I get overwhelmed with thoughts or I really can’t remember, so I have to cover my ears and shut my eyes very tight and concentrate and back track to remember.

Emotionally I feel worse. Things that would’ve made me feel pretty bad before, have worsened ten-fold.

I take the medicine around 6-7 am daily (excluding weekends) and I feel like by 10 it starts wearing off. By 1 it’s like I never even took it.

I’m frustrated. I feel like a guinea pig. Being in grade 11 taking a few honours/ ap and grade 12 courses. (forget thought, am ignoring it because its painful to remember where I am going with this) This isnt a time for experimentation. I need to get this all over with.

  45. Steve says:

Thought i’d share a follow up… Day 5 of the medication and I have returned to class this week (I had missed about 2 weeks of school). I have never been happier. I am learning in class and it is fantastic. And for the first time in my life I actually studied yesterday (as opposed to just staring at the pages for an hour). I have high hopes for my grades in the future. Also I have way more confidence and my erratic driving seems to have stopped completely.

To Amelia, if I had to guess (based on what my Psychiatrist told me yesterday) agitation has less to do with the dose and more to do with how long you’ve been on said dose. Wait like 5 days before you decide it’s too much. The way he said to gauge it is by when it wears off

  46. Doug Ramm says:

For myself I am 44 years of age and was first diagnosed with Panic/Anxiety disorder which manifested in agitation and moderate to severe hives. The doc used a slow approach to build up tolerance to Alprolazam. (.25mg 4 x day, and slowly increase up to 1-2mg (.5mg x4 /day ) and 2-3mg(1mg 3x day). I hit a threshold/bonk/duh point at 3mg).

Since then I got a 2nd opinion and ADHD was diagnosed. Concerta(Ritalin) had bad side effects and was too ineffective.

Vvyanse was prescribed and I built up with 10mg to 20mg over a few days and am now taking 40mg after a week.

ATTN New Users! Your body has to become used to the drug in your system!

IF YOU JUST STARTED wait some time to acclimate yourself as you will feel oddat first this will go away.

  47. William says:

I have recently been diagnosed with ADHD. I was prescribed 30mg of Vivanse a day. In my opinion, it is a great drug. It has helped tremendously. My only complaint is, like others, it is almost completely ineffective after only a few hours. I seem to be quite tolerant to it now after only one week on the drug. By the time I eat lunch(if I’m hungry), it seems to have already lost what little effect it now has on me. That means after about five hours from consumption, gone. If it lasted the full 12 hours they claim and it’s effects didn’t diminish after 1 week I would not have any complaints. Maybe a higher dosage is necessary. Thanks….

  48. Natalie says:

I am a 31 year old mother of three. Two of which have been diagnosed with ADHD. I was recently about a year ago diagnosed with ADHD and about 6 months ago put on welbutrin. I quit smoking thanks to welbutrin but I still was not able to focus on anything at one time. My thoughts were all over the place and sitting still was impossible. I would go from room to room in the house starting cleaning projects and not finishing a single one. I always just delt with my inability to focus until I recently went back to school in May of this year. I couldn’t focus on any of my work and my grades began to drop fast. I started Vyvanse last week at 20 mg a day. I loved it the first day. I had a morning class and found myself calm and focused. About four hours after I took the pill it wore off and I was back to being all over the place again. I had the same effect for the two days to follow, so on the third day I called my doc to tell him the med was not lasting much of my day at all. He suggested on the days I have class that I take 2 pills and the day after not take any since I only have 30 pills. I have taken 40 mg twice and it seems to work a little longer but I can tell it would not last me all day. I am waiting to see my doc next month to adjust my dose. I hope he can get me on the right dose that will last me all day. I only use my vyvanse right now for school but I have a hard time at work as well.

I have never been extremely organized n it frustrates me but I don’t have the ambition to do it. I had seen a counselor years ago n they just over medicated me with series, tri-c. Meds etc etc. I saw a neurologist fir my headaches. I was taking percs, tried fiorcet, immitrex n xanax. All temp fixes. I went to a new dr recently who said I have always had adhd but it has just become more prominent now due to my anxiety n disarray in my life. I had mentioned this years ago to a prior dr n suggested adderrall but she flat out told me no way. This new dr tried to first start me on another ssri, I refused as I had been on zoloft 200 mg along with wellbutrin n trazadone????? Nothing worked. I was more depressed n just didn’t give a Shit. Then they switched me to remeron. Hated it. Worst med I ever took. Then prestique. Didn’t work either. So to sum it all up, the narcs were temp fixes for the headaches but they were still frequent. I’ve been on vyvanse for a week now 50 mg. Just looking for advice from someone who may have a similar situation. The headaches decreased I feel n the drs feel they r stressed induced. I still get tired towards the end of the day. Maybe a increase in dosage is what I need or a different stimulant. N e suggestions on experiences n e one else has had with a similar situation? I just want my life back.

I have been taking vyvanse for about 3 or 4 years now, during the week and rarely on weekends. I started when i was diagnosedworth adult onset ADHD in college. I dramatically improved my grades and GPA.

It’s important to rememberthyme vyvanse doesn’t make you smarter, it only makes you study better…

I love the drug but i get extremely bad side effects. I have to wake up at 4 in the morning to take it and then fall back asleep till 7 because it takes me about 3 to 4 hours to start to feel it. Then I feel really proactive and focused for about 4 to 5 hours until the comedown starts to take place. My eyes feel extremely dry and I can’t stop blinking (although I found that anti-histamine eye drops work wonders for this). I get moody, depressed and feel like lashing out in anger for stupid, little things. This lasts a few hours before i suddenly feel this “lift” of the drug out of my system and I’m suddenly in a better mood. Exercise also helps speed up this process. Anyways, sometimes I wish I could stop taking it but on weekends, for example, when I don’t take it, all I do is sleep for 12 hours a night and feel like a zombie. It is extremely addicting. I always tell everyone, if you can study already, please don’t start taking it haha.
Vyvanse is an angel and a devil drug, sometimes it’s hard to weigh the risks and benefits
