Dr. Handelman,

I am aware of doctors being reluctant to hand out medical advice online, but I am an adult who was recently diagnosed with ADHD Inattentive type at 33 years of age. It's something I've struggled with my entire life. But, I'm dissappointed to find that no medicine works for me. I've been official diagnosed and I've seen a reputable psychiatris as well as psychologist. I've tried Concerta, Vyvanse, Strattera, Focalin, and Wellbutrin. But, all of these, even at very low doses causes all kinds of emotional side-effects as well as increased heart-rate in some. Strattera works the best, but here's what it does to me without fail: it becomes a powerful anti-anxiety drug 1.5-2 hours after very first dose. It raises heart rate 20-25bpm. I don't have heart conditions. I do have acid reflux and high cholesterol. 3 days ago I realized I may be getting an interaction between these drugs and Advair. I have yet to prove this connection, but getting off Advair I feel so much more relaxed. I've emailed a doctor, Dr. Charles Parker. But, I've exhausted his free help. Now, off of Advair, my ADHD is a little worse, but it seems there is nothing I can do about it. Since you're so passionate about helping ADHD people would you mind thinking about this an emailing me? I want to go back to school and finish my Ph. D. but I had problems focusing and motivating myself on a daily basis when I was going through the program. Thanks.

Dr. Hallowell and Dr. Handelman.... when I read your report, my eyes filled with tears. I have long said that ADHD was not a deficit, but rather a gift and have read a number of books that support this. Unfortunately, doctors and teachers do not always see it the same way, but I feel with your report and future information, that this will begin to change the way people think about this. These children have been sent to us as gifts.... we just haven't recognized it yet.
Thank you and God bless you in your work!
