Replay of Managing The Gift Call
Tonight we had the teleseminar where I interviewed Dr. Kevin Ross Emery, the author of:
Managing The Gift: Alternative Approaches for ADD.
He presented a very different perspective - using insights from his ’spiritual approach’ and his years of experience helping people with ADHD from all over the world.
This is definitely a thought provoking call - and I encourage you to listen to it while the replay page is available (just during this week - the ADHD Awareness Week).
You can access the replay here: Managing The Gift Replay Call.
Enjoy!

Dr. Kenny,
I enjoyed Dr. Kevin’s discussion of ADHD. It is the first program I’ve listened from your website. What I liked was how Dr. Kevin described the experience of being ADHD; Like having no skin, all information gets in, our search for truth, our sense of justice, how we create a model of how the world works in order to organize and process all the information we take in, how we are stubornly hold onto our hard sought truth, and how we continually ask questions and re-evaluate everything. People in general normally have little idea what the thought processes are like for an ADHDer, what being ADHD really means. Thanks for the mirror Dr. Kevin. I feel a little less isolated.

I’d like to add something to my previous comment. I’d like to share that I’ve found I have gotten better at being open to additional truths and I don’t just stick to the one truth I’ve already decided governs a particular situation. I believe that medication plus some executive function self-prompting has made that possible. I medicine I take is Strattera. It works very well for me.
The questions I ask myself repeatedly throughout the day are: “Am I working on the task I intended to?” and “Is there a simple additional component or simple different solution that gets the task I’m working on completed easier and faster and possibly better?”. I also like to look for the one thing I can change about any step that I take to complete a task, that will most increase my chances for success. I’ve found these few simple questions to help immensely.

Hi, I am Dr Kevin’s Assistant, and wanted to say “thank you” to Dr. Kenny for allowing Dr. Kevin to be on your show and also for doing a great job at getting the word out. Dr. Kevin is based in Portland Maine and we are always coming across people who feel isolated. Thanks Dr. Kenny for breaking that open. We are seeing more and more people getting Dr. Kevin’s book on ADD/ADHD as more and more people are seeing the alternative and positive approach to it all. Maybe some things like the medical systems are changing or at least we are making a dent? Good luck to all. James
