Visit The Hallowell Center With Me…

By Dr. Kenny Handelman

Dr. Hallowell and I just met at the Hallowell Center a few days ago – to put the final plans together for the ‘Unwrapping The Gift of ADD‘ program which will be launching in a few days (The website will go live on Wednesday April 16th at 12 pm EDT, 9 am PDT).

I flew down to Boston for the day (and then had to drive to Sudbury, MA to get to Dr. Hallowell’s office). I thought it would be fun to bring my camcorder – and let you join me for this journey. In this video, you’ll get to:

  • See Dr. Hallowell’s office
  • Listen in as I ask him some of the questions that have come up about ‘Unwrapping the Gift of ADD’
  • and hear more about this program

Even though you may not ever be able to visit the Hallowell Center – you can check it out with me on these videos…

This video runs about 15 minutes – so it had to be broken into two parts (Youtube only allows 10 minute videos…)

Enjoy!

…and as always, please leave your comments below.

    Dear Dr. Handelman
At 2 minutes past noon, your unwrapping the gift of add blog wouldn’t connect. I’m sure it was due to all of us desperately trying to sign up for the lecture series……..
Are you going to offer alternative solutions?
    Thank you in advance

Thank you. I think this paradigm shift is so important in preserving and bolstering the self-esteem of those diagnosed with ADD, particularly children. My 11 year old son is ADHD and had my husband and I been presented early on with this truth, that people with ADD possess wonderful gifts, it would have made a world of difference in how we felt, acted, interacted, believed, and delt with our son, relatives, teachers, friends, etc. And it would have made the most difference in how he felt about himself. We now have to work at undoing how our son feels about himself…that there is something wrong with him. It is a struggle every day. What you are doing has the potential to help so many children and families who are just begining this journey.

Dear Dr. Handelman, I just finished watching your video visit to Dr. Hallowell. What a great idea! It’s so nice when you are able to put a face with a name.

Earlier this evening I listened to the 7th session of “Unwrapping the Gifts” featuring Sari Solden, I was fortunate enough to have my 22 year old daughter home for the evening and I asked her to listen along with me (she and her father are quite skeptical about this whole “ADD thing”). Sari’s presentation along with your wonderful questions and summaries was exactly what I needed to give some much needed validity to a host of frustrating behaviours and unexplainable difficulties I have experienced my entire life.

I was diagnosed a year ago with ADD at the age of 51. The recurring story I hear so often is that Women finally realize “that sounds just like me” as they educate themselves about ADD/ADHD due to having a son or daughter who has been diagnosed. This was the way I dicovered why I was so different from those mothers who could do it all. I loved hearing that Sari has “piles” everywhere still and that’s O.K.!

Many thanks to you Dr. Handleman and to your generous colleagues for sharing your knowledge, insight and wonderful optimism (at no charge!) to so many needy children, parents, families and hopefully other health care professionals. I think more training should be given to everyone in a health related job, it’s astounding the number of women who end up with anxiety & depression due to a missed diagnosis and the prescribed meds for depression just don’t work for Attention Deficit. There is quite a lot of truth to the saying…”If Momma ain’t happy, then nobody’s happy” LOL

Looking forward to listening to your topic tomorrow evening. You have certainly helped me and countless others by making this wonderful series of lectures available.

    Thanks again,

    Sara

P.S. I didn’t realize that you live in Oakville, My husband grew up there & we go visit his mom 5 or 6 times a year!
