Vyvanse: No Addiction with ADD/ADHD Medication

By Dr. Kenny Handelman

Although many people worry about ADD/ADHD medication leading to addiction in children and teens who take it – there is solid research now that shows that when children and teens take ADD/ADHD medication as prescribed, there is a significant reduction in the long term risk of drug and alcohol problems (it is reduced by almost 75%).

However, there are still people who abuse ADD/ADHD medications. In the Toronto area, regular ritalin pills (i.e. 10 mg tablets) can be bought on the street for approximately $5. Why? Because people will crush them and snort them to get high.

The newer and long acting ADD/ADHD medications – including Concerta, Adderall XR, Biphentin, Metadate CD, Ritalin LA, Focalin XR – are much harder to abuse because of their long acting nature. However, in theory, a creative drug abuser could figure out a way to extract the active ingredient and get high, by snorting it or injecting it.

What’s the difference with Vyvanse?

Because Vyvanse is a ‘pro-drug’, it cannot be abused.

A pro-drug means that the active medicine is bound to a protein, so it doesn’t work as an amphetamine when it is first taken. It only starts to work after it is swallowed and goes through the liver (the first step a medicine takes when leaving the stomach). When it goes through the liver, the liver cuts off the protein, and then it becomes an active medicine.

If Vyvanse is taken any other way – snorted, injected, or any other way in an attempt to get high, it will just be inert – i.e. it won’t work at all.

The only way Vyvanse is active – is if it is swallowed and then passes through the liver.

Vyvanse is the first stimulant medicine made available with zero potential for abuse.

When it comes to the other medications with low abuse potential – these include the long acting stimulants – including: Concerta, Adderall XR, Biphentin, Metadate CD, Ritalin LA, Focalin XR, etc.

When it comes to the only other medication with zero potential for abuse, that is the non-stimulant for ADD/ADHD, Strattera. This is also a good option, however if someone needs a stimulant medicine with no potential for abuse, Vyvanse is the medication to choose.

hello everybody. I’m not add/adhd but i have experimented, or abused whichever way you want to look at it, with dextroamphetamines on and off for the past couple years. I think it’s downright pathetic that they would say vyvance has no potential for addiction, i mean come on it’s an amphetamine, its one chemical structure away from meth! Although amphetamines do not produce physical dependence they are very psychologically addictive. I have tried them all from ritalin, to dexedrine, to vyvance, to adderall which is hands down in my opinion the strongest of them all. It is true that vyvance is the tamest of them all but it is still very easily abused and produces a pretty good speedy high in my opinion. My cousin who is a Dr told me that 30mg of vyvance is equivalent to 10mg of adderall ER, 50mg of vyvance is equivalent to 20mg of adderall ER, 70mg of vyvance is equivalent to 30mg of adderall ER and so on. So yes its true its not as potent in its ability to cause a high as ritalin or adderall but you can still become psychologically dependant on the medication and although abruptly stopping the medication will not cause physical withdrawals it will still be hell on your mind and soul. Amphetamine is not a drug to be taken lightly, no matter if its made in a labratory by certified chemists or a nasty meth lab by some junkie cook. A word of advice to the people out there like me who just use these drugs recreationally, please at least keep your usage under once a week and you wont have to worry about your tolerance going up. And to the several people that posted earlier about having to snort a couple lines every couple hours to stay high, just swallow the pills and i promise the high will last alot longer and you wont be disappointed. Trust me on this one, my brother’s adhd and has had many different meds over the years and ive tried them all and I’ve always enjoyed the high a million times more by just eating them instead of snorting them. I hope you all stay safe and live fufilling lives. peace and love.
    ps. stay away from needles.

  2. OJ says:

You CAN get high from vyvanse. Not from snorting it though, just popping it.
    http://www.vyvanse.com/pdf/prescribing_information.pdf

“However, oral administration of 150 mg
lisdexamfetamine dimesylate produced increases in positive subjective responses
on these scales that were statistically indistinguishable from the positive subjective
responses produced by 40 mg of oral immediate-release d-amphetamine and 200mg of diethylpropion (C-IV)”

If recreational doses of Vyvanse are indistinguishable from recreational doses of d-amphetamine then it is definitely abusable.

im 15, took 140mg of vyvanse which im prescribed to. but ususally 30. i felt like going overboard because ive done that once before? i was alright in the end. but i did have some severe symptoms. i weigh 115lbs. and now i feel better than i did when i did more before. before it was 120mg. how does that make sense? also. my friend, shes 17, not prescribed to any meds. doesnt have adhd/add. took 50mg of mine to see what its like. she should be ok right? i think shes just freaking a little bit

  4. Richard Rendall says:

    Dr. Kennedy,
I am not here to raise any fuss, just seeking a medical opinion from a professional. Your responce is very important to me and will be received with due respect.
I am now 65 years old first DXed with major depression in 1964. I served two tours in Vietnam as a sniper with the USMC came home with PTSD, for years have struggled with excessive daytime sleepiness. I don’t think they knew what ADHA was back when I was diagnosed. It is obvious may interest in Vyvanse is “off label” but so is everything else I take – Lamictil, Prozac, Datrana Patch (30mg methylphenidate trans derm.), Provigil. I have been through all MAOI’s, TCA,s, SSRI’s cognative therapy and ECT. The provigil and Datrana patch make life livable for four hours then stops working at 4 hours on the button.

I have had a complete physical and sleep study – no problem there. I have become convinced over the years my excessive daytime sleepiness and depression a related to dopemine(?) regulation and all the emphesis on seratonin has very little to do with my problem. I do have a history of psychostimulant abuse (by mouth only). I have been completely honest with my many doctors over the years and understandably they are reluctant to offer anything that may lead to more problems. Would you think Vyvanse would be worth a trial ? I won’t quote you when I speak to my physician – would just be greatful for your opinion.

As a side note – I get all my medications from Canada – we have socialized medicine run by insurance companies down here and we can’t afford anything.

    With respect,

    Richard

  5. Richard,
    This sounds complicated…
THe short answer is: yes – Vyvanse may be helpful. When doctors are concerned about abuse of stimulant medicines – generally the newer medicines are less abusable (i.e. Concerta and Adderall XR). Vyvanse is the newest and due to its unique nature, it has even less potential for abuse.
To the extent that stimulants may help you – Vyvanse may be a good option.
If you feel that dopamine based medicines are helpful – you may want to consider the antidepressant: Wellbutrin. Something to talk to your doctor about.
I’m surprised that as a veteran you don’t get insurance for your medicine… That’s really surprising. As a side note – we don’t have Vyvanse in Canada yet…
    Best,
    Dr. Kenny

  6. Richard Rendall says:

    Dr. Handelman,

I wish to offer my thanks for your responce to my question of yesterday.
You are correct in saying my case is complicated. When I returned home I was somehow able to complete a BA degree at the University of Buffalo in psychology. I followed that with a 30 year career in the cardiac pacemaker business (24/7 emergency on call for surgery). Due my function in Vietnam (“black ops” – closed file) I was not allowed admission to VA services, my file is now open. During my working career I had very good medical coverage – covered complete cost of 15 hospital admits. for acute depressive episodes until my physican insisted on 100% disability in 1998.
I am difficult to treat because current DX Bipolar II, PTSD, a yet to be explained sleep disorder after sleep test and physical exam.
Based on results of the sleep study I had many spontanious awakenings with very mild sleep apnea (use CPAP every night) with no affect on excessive daytime sleepiness. I can’t help but feel excessive stress for a prolonged period has contributed to my condition.

In any case I have come rather far afield from ADD/ADHD, I wish to thank you for your attention.

    God bless you sir,

    Richard

  7. Jason says:

I can tell you first hand that it has potential for abuse. However, it is much easier to resist than other meds.
I’m in recovery from a drug and alcohol addiction. I have a history of meth and cocaine (and everything else) use. Upon my ADD diagnosis, my doctor prescribed me Adderall. I told him how nervous I was to take any stimulant for fear that I’d relapse. At that time I had nearly 3 years of sobriety BTW. Anyhow, He assured me that it would just balance me out and I’d be fine.
I’ll interject now that this is the same doctor that told me to stop my 4 year 40mg/day Paxil prescription cold turkey, when I told him I wanted off. Thank god I had done my homework and knew more than him on the weaning plan of this drug. Six months and I’m still at ten mg BTW.
Anyhow, I took one pill of the Adderall and in an hour my appetite was gone, my spirits were sky high, and I knew that I loved this stuff. I knew this was bad. By the next day I had bypassed all sleep and snorted the entire bottle and was ready to go score some real stuff. The cravings I got from Adderall weere tremendous. Needless to say I had a moment of clarity and called the doctor to cancel my prescription and went to bed. I woke up happy to not be a junkee again.
I then requested to see a psychaitrist who could understand my meds better and she prescribed vyvanse as the last attempt at a stimulant remedy. I read up on the pro drug claims and felt much better, but still concerned. I have always been a snorter or a smoker, rarely popping pills alone, so I didn’t see myself falling into that routine. Dont get me wrong, as an addict I can get “hooked” on cheeseburgers at 3:05 pm everyday if I let myself develop a routine. For this reason, pro drug or not, the potential was still there, as was my addict thinking, so I was weary.
So I took one. The climb was much slower and not as intense. It reminded me of the difference between smoking pot and eating a pot brownie. Both get you high, but its different. Eating pot has gotten me super high, and for a long time, but I never liked it as much as the immediate high of smoking. Anyhow, even digesting the prescribed amount I could still feel it in me. I liked it alot even with the bruxism and the dry mouth, but somehow I wasn’t craving to take a handful more. I also didn’t crash off of this like I did with other illicit narcotics or the Adderall. All of this made it seem doable to me. I did realize that it triggered my addict thinking because I was so excited that my appetite was gone again and I had lots of energy and motivation. Neither of those are the resons I was prescribed this though, so I knew that was the addict in me. To this day, even though it helps my concentration tremendously, I still appreciate those “side effects” more than the intended use at times.
So it’s been about three months and I have had a few nights where I know I’m abusing it for studying, or cleaning, or whatever. Those are all relapses in my book. However, I dont obsess about it like other substances. I dont get the cravings for coke like with the adderall. I dont get the immediate high like snorting drugs. I’m pretty sure that I could take as much of this as possible and keep getting higher, but I haven’t. I do notice a tolerance even after one day of a large dose. A few days off of it seems to help, but the original feelings from one dose haven’t been back. Chances are like most things you get off on, they wont either. As I notice my tolerance increase I notice my appetite returning too. I’ve lost fourty pounds in these three months and I’m not too thrilled about going back to constant hunger again. I’m 230 now, so I have quite a way to go before this pseudo-anorexia is a concern for me. During the times that I dont take it, I do notice extreme hunger that continues even when I’m stuffed. I also am a lot more tired than I remember being before I started these pills. No suprise on either front.
So, for an addict, I personally dont think that any stimulant, or anything that feels good, is a good idea. I now say that ” I haven’t had a drink in three years” in my AA meetings, because there have been some times when I know I’m not sober. I’m not proud of that and I keep a close eye on it out of fear alone. That fact aside, if you want to treat your ADD, and it will, I’d go for this one as it’s abuse potential is certainly lower than the alternatives. Like everything, it is abusable, but not via the method most of us would prefer it to be, so it’s less of a concern.

  8. Jason says:

…and the preceeding rambling is what happens when you follow your prescription but cure cotton mouth with red bull all night.

  9. Will says:

    Hello everyone,

I must simply disagree with the psychiatrist’s statement that Vyvanse “cannot be abused.” I’ve tried Adderall and didn’t like the “comedown” I experienced everyday at the same time, so I tried Vyvanse. I feel just as “high” on Vyvanse as I did on Adderall! The only think limiting my “abuse” of the medicine is that if I take too high of a dosage (above 50mg), my Tourette’s tics get almost unbearable. But I’ve got to say, I can tell that I’m becoming dependent on Vyvanse–however slow-acting it is, Vyvanse still contains amphetamine, which drastically increases dopamine.

I might not be getting as “high” as someone who snorts Adderall, but there is certainly a very welcome rush!!

As a disclaimer, though, I’d say I probably react differently than most people to drugs, even something as simple as caffeine (which also gets me somewhat “high”), most likely because I lie somewhere along the bipolar spectrum.

I just wanted to clear that up, though: Vyvanse is definitely abusable! Why else would it be a FDA Schedule 1 drug, along with Adderall?!

(Actually, addressed directly to the doctor: do you think Strattera would be a better alternative if I’m having abuse problems with Vyvanse?)

  10. Caleb says:

I am almost 17 years old and was diagnosed with ADD about 1 year ago. my parents chose not to medicate me because I had “mild” ADD. A doctor told me that consuming caffeine could help with test taking and concentration and would have a negative affect on me. Instead of becoming hyper, I would become calm and alert mentally. This has worked extremely well but I was having to consume more and more of it as my tolerance grew, which I did not like. My friend has been diagnosed with depression, ADHD(severe), and other disorders. He takes Vyvanse everyday and said it really helps him feel normal and in control throughout the day. He gave me a pill to try and I took it a while later to see what effect it had on me. Little did i know that you were supposed to take it in the morning because it has caused insomnia in some cases. I took it around 7, or 8 at night. Unfortunately, i did not sleep the entire night. I have been awake since 11am yesterday morning. i have slept less than an hour and while i was awake the entire night I felt very in control for the first 3 hours and very happy and sociable. after about 5 hours i started to run a cold sweat, increased heartbeat/ heart rate, heavy, quick breathing, and the need to constantly be moving my leg up and down unconsciously. The positive side affect of taking it were being able to concentrate better than ever, being able to have a clear conversation with someone(something i struggle with.) I was sociable, talkative, kind, caring, and honest.(All of these things i am normally not which is why it was significant that Vyvanse brought them out in me.)Is Vyvanse for me? Should i try it again and take it as directed in the morning? Or is this the wrong prescription for me…

  11. Hi Caleb,
This may be the right prescription for you – but you really need to talk to your doctor and make sure to get your own prescription. It’s possible that vyvanse at a lower dose may help you – but it may not be right for you.
See your doctor and describe what you’ve written here and hopefully he/she can help you.
    Best,
    Dr. Kenny

  12. Julie says:

I am almost 50. I have been diagnosed with major depression, anxiety and bipolar. I agree with the diagnoses of major depression and anxiety, but I question the bipolar diagnosis (although more than one doctor concur). I do not have an addictive personality (probably a contol freak) and I don’t drink (the hangovers suck and always have). I am afraid of becoming dependent on any prescribed or street drug. The only street drug that I have used is marijuana. When I “use” I use very little. Two or three hits at a time and the effects last for 3-6 hours. I use for two or three weeks and then will be off of “it” for months. I use only at home. The legal/personal consequences of getting “caught” could be devastating. I have used while taking and while not taking the prescribed anti-depressants and mood stablizers. The affects of marijuana, FOR ME, are beneficial.
So one day, I asked my psychiatrist to prescribe Marinol. I left with a prescription for 20mg Vyvanse, once a day.
It’s legal and it works miracles FOR ME.
At home, the effects of taking Vyvanse (with and without the other prescribed meds) are many of the same effects which I experienced with marijuana…I have the energy to get off of the couch and do something (housework and household chores).
Vyvanse allows me to; and makes me willing to go out in public for shopping and other errands. Vyvanse helps with the social anxieties.
Vyvanse puts me in touch with others via the phone. Could this be a placebo affect?
I don’t believe it to be a placebo affect because of the measurable differences at work. First of all, my mood is elevated just walking in the door. I am able to speak to and converse with my co-workers. I have energy. I have focus. I am more productive. I am able to tackle tasks which I would normally put off. I am a better person when I take Vyvanse.
HOWEVER, and hence the reason I am writing. I am sooo afraid of becoming dependent on and tolerant to this drug. For this reason, I take only as prescribed (for the most part) and will skip days when I can. But gosh, it works for me which makes Vyvanse scary to me.

  13. scotty says:

i been taking vyvanse for about 2 n a half months. the first half of the month was great. and b4 u know it from taking it everyday i dont notice any difference in my add or wut not. im just less angry lol and a bit more chill, yeah focus is better but not as good as it was the first month or so. when i dont take it omg do i sleep. all day long on a saturday ill b passed out. but yeah the med helped me alot tho i have improved alot. i finally feel a lot smarter and school stuff is alot better than it ever has been. but i feel like i need a higher dose since i almost feel like im bak to normal. like idk. i liked when i first started taking it, i became more social, unlike some ppl i hear are very calm from it . like im awake and calm and hyper at the same time and it clears my anger problems away and makes me so much happier and stress free. besides the add/adhd Im also diagnosed OCD n bi polar. its helped out my ocd about 75% somehow i have noticed a awesome change in it. but im still bi polar but its controlled alot due to my increase in happiness i suppose. like when i dont take it, omg. its like a war starts in my head and i get filled up with so many negative thoughts, im kinda lazy and bored, thats usually wen i would want to keep to myself and not see ppl. and also i dont dream when i take it. but when i dont take it i have extreamly crazy detailed dreams. most the time those dreams r bad cause my angry side goes crazy.im guessing from taking the med its also calmed my stress lvl down so much that from the massive build up i go a lil out of my mind. but thats very rare, as soon as the med hits i wont even think that way and be happy again which i love the most. Well back to the forums subject now. i guess that its not addictive i suppose,i DO NOT abuse it nor try to. but i really do rely on this drug, trust me i hate saying it. like i said if i dont take it, it wont b a good day for me. but i feel like i have improved alot and thats all that matters. its either im gonna die from un motivation and stress or taking the pill and being happy and motivated and ready. so yeah i choose the med. but o well if u disagree, u really just dont understand. but yeah vyvanse is cool. would b better to have 2 doses a day like adderall since like an hour after i feel the med i start feeling tired and less concentrated. i want to keep the concentration. o well im very tired i kinda just saw this and its late so my med basically wore off as i wrote this. so its all probly messy. o well. vyvanse is good tho i reccommend it.

  14. Anonn says:

I wouldn’t suggest trying to snort it…it kinda works if you swallow the drip

  15. KnowTheFacts says:

This is bull. Stop trying to hype vyvanse to something its not…

shire changes the “ph” to “f” in amphetamine to draw attention from its association with speed…yet it does the same thing. you can obviously tell people are writing thier responses WHILE on vyvanse. These people ARE high. Take vyvanse and EVERYTHING SEEMS LIKE THE BEST THING EVER!!!! LYKE OMG!!! I LOVE WRITING 900 WORD REVIEWS ABOUT HOW GREAT VYVANSE MAKES ME FEEL!!! (potential for abuse? gets you high?

you can be physically and psychologically addicted to ANY FORM OF SPEED! amphetamine=speed. vyvanse=amphetamine.

i smoke weed EVERY DAY. i’m fine.

i take vyvanse for a month straight and i feel like a drug addict. hmmmmmmm……?

  16. kim c. says:

That dr. is a liar. I just stayed up all night and could not resist taking ten of my 70 mg throughout the night. I then cleaned, wrote a paper and felt horribly guilty that i kept saying i would not take another but then did. Now i feel just like i did when i was on meth. remorseful at my behavior and depressed to be coming down. I even told the doc i had abused the first batch he gave me and he said there is no abuse issue with this drug and it does not work like that..no euphoria payoff.. then proceeded to write me a higher dose. Thanks Doc. no euphoria huh? is that why i freaked out on the receptionist that was not giving me my script quick enough and called her 4 times to follow up, telling her over and over that i needed it right away..then tore open the bag and downed the pill..interestingly enough.. a little bit later all was good with life..Hmmm.. Could that be considered euphoria? an elevated state of being that is accomplished from a pill? Now I will have to figure out a way to kick these.. All I want to do is take another. Never had adderrall so cant compare… but yes you CAN abuse vyvanse… So I am not injecting it.. big deal. does that mean i am not abusing it because i only take tons by mouth and it has to pass through my liver? Well, amen. Guess i can ride on that rationalization for a while. now what to do about my pill shortage..hmmmm…. I am thinking I will stay off it for a few since the regular dose will probably not be as effective since my 10 last night. I am not sure what makes a dr. think he knows so much that when I specifically tell him how my body is reacting he has the nerve to say that is not possible. Well,, perhaps he thought I was trying to trick him with fake stories of my side effects- but he showed me. To sum it up.. all these dr. reports that vyvanse has no potential for abuse is really making me feel bad for the dr.s, You know how sue happy Americans are and I feel some lawsuits coming on in the future. I do own my behavior though and at this point if i continue going in for more, then i am choosing to stay addicted– its my life not the dr.s… well, enough vyvanse rambling– thanks for listening. i will be forcing myself to go to sleep while trying to stop the constant chewing on my inner mouth.. so familiar this feeling.. oh yeah.. just like when i was shooting meth.

  17. T Jones says:

I was diagnosed with or labeled with a learning disabilty in the 70′s. After years of frustration I finally went to the Dr. and talked about ADD. What do you know, I’m a poster child for ADD. I just started Vyanase 30 MG. It has truly changed my life. I can focus! I don’t BLOW UP! I actually sit down and help my kids with their home work. I guess there is abuse potential, but the positives out weigh the risks. After being told I’m lazy etc., etc. and and not being able to control my impulsive behavoir for years I feel great. I don’t know if it is the Vyanase or the fact that I realize that I’m not alone and so different after all. All I know is my marriage,Job, and relationship with kids are getting better. If that is a BAD thing I guess I’m all for it.

  18. Danny says:

You all are crazy, and you do not know wtf you are talking about. I get prescribed Vyvanse 40Mgs and i do not have add or adhd and I get high as hell. I speed really hard, and it is awesome. SO stop stating facts saying vyvanse won’t get you high.

  19. Rob E. says:

Hey, guys. I started my first dose of Vyvance this morning at 50mg. Wow, what a difference. I literaly havn’t felt like that in quite sometime. I’m in college so it really helped in class. But, and here is my problem, MY BLOOD PRESSURE WAS SCARY HIGH. I’m only 26 and my pressure was at like 160/117! I don’t smoke, drink and am reletively healthy. Has anyone ever had this problem and what did you (or your doctor) do about it? My doctor is out of town for two more days and I can’t get any solid answers from anyone. Will this high pressure subside or what? Thanks.

  20. Nancy B. says:

    Hi Rob E.,
Are you drinking caffiene drinks at all? I noticed when I drank Mountain Dew while on Vyvanse my blood pressure rose. I’ve had a few occassions when I went to the Doc’s and they took my blood pressure and it was really high, but after 10 minutes of calming down and deep breathing they would take it again and it would be fine. I normally have normal blood pressure.
But you should consider the foods and drinks you are ocnsuming – like chocolate has caffiene as well as Mountain Dew and other drinks.
Just curious, how did you check your blood pressure? Do you have an arm cuff at home? Do you tend to have high blood pressure? Also, how many times during the day did you notice the high blood pressure?
    Thanks, Nancy B.

  21. Rob E. says:

    Hi Nancy,

    Thanks for responding.

As for caffiene, no, normally I stay away from caffienated beverages. I did, however, consume maybe a few cups of coffee within a three day period a week prior to Vyvance and I consumed one soda each of those same days. Ironically, that is out of the ordinary for me because caffiene in general over stimulates me and can cause anxiety.

As for checking my blood pressure, I had been feeling jittery (over stimulated) all morning after taking Vyvance so I walked to the counter of an in store pharmacy and began sharing my symtoms with the pharmacist. They knew what Vyvance was, confirmed my symtoms, then suggested that I use the blood pressure/pulse rate machine they had available there (the chair one sits in with the electric arm cuff). After it had finished, the results read 169/117 with a pulse rate of 109.

I told the pharmacist my results and they comfirmed it to be pretty high (of course). They then suggested that I walk around the store a bit (I needed a few things anyways) and come back and try it again. Well, the second time (and I didn’t right this one down like the first) was lower on the systolic side but the diastolic had gone up just a little. The next day I stopped taking the medicine and that night, I was shopping with my wife and came across another blood pressure/heart rate monitor outside another in store pharmacy. This time it read at 152/99, a little lower than the day before but still high. I’ve always felt a little “high strung” and can get myself quite anxious at times, but I have had my pressure checked before and have never had these high of results.

As a result, I have decided to change my diet (except for a calzon last night – dang it), and have purchased many fruits, vegetables, and water. I did buy some V8 vegetable drinks but after I read the sodium rate on the label, I put the down.

Nancy, I want to do all I can to keep this pressure low. I’m only 26 and have three children and can’t afford any serious issues. If there is anything else you can suggest for me to do, please let me know.

    Thanks again,

    Rob E.

    DEAR DR. HENDLEMAN,
i AM BACK ONCE AGAIN SEEKING FURTHER ADVICE ON VYVANSE. I UNDERSTANT THE DRUG MUST BE MATABALIZED VIA THE LIVER, I WAS NEVER ONE TO “SNORT” OR INJECT DRUGS ANYHOW.MY PROBLEM WAS USING 300 MG OF CONCERTA PER DAY OVER A THREE YEAR PERIOD.I ADMITTED MY ABUSE TO MY DOCTOR AND MUST NOW BECOME ASSUSTOM TO BEING ‘JUST ANOTHER DRUG ADDICT’. ALTHOUGH I WAS WRONG IN WHAT I DID I WOULD STILL WELCOME THE DECENCY SHOWN OTHER PATIENTS. I GUESS MY QUESTION IS WOULD I DEVELOPE A TOLERENCE TO HIS NEW DRUG AND INCREASE MY USAGE.
IAM CURRENTLY TAKING NUVIGIL 250MG.X2 PER DAY AND USE ONE DATRONA PATCH (METHELPHENIDATE) 30MG. SUBQU.I REALLY FEEL MY PROBLEM IN STAYING AWAKE IS THE LACK OF NOREPENEPHRIN RATHER THAN DOPEMINE. MY CURRENT MEDS ALLOW ME TO STAY AWAKE FOR 4 HOURS, AT THAT POINT I MUST BE OFF THE ROADS TO AVOID INJURING PEOPLE.
i HAVE BEEN READIG ARTICLES ON RETRO-VIRUSES – EXAMPLE I HAD MONO. IN 1964 THEY STILL SEE THE ANTIBODIES ON BLOOD TESTS.mY DOCTOR HAS BEEN RELUCTANT TO GIVE ME VYVANSE FOR FEAR I WILL REPEAT MY BEHAVIOR WITH CONCERTA. IF YOU COULD STRAIGHTEN THIS POINT OUT FOR ME IT WOULD BE A BIG HELP, AS ALWAYS, I WILL NOT QOUTE YOU AS A SOURCE OR IN ANYWAY CAUSE A PROBLEM.
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH ,

    Hi Rob,
Have you had high blood presuure in the past? Without you consuming caffiene on a daily basis, that kind of rules out that idea. But you mentioned that you seem to be on the high-strung spectrum of how you are, versus being calm and laid back. Do you tend to rush around, trying to get a lot done or rush out the door heading to an appointment or store, etc? Just curious. Generally I am a person that is always running late and when I would go to the doctor, I was rushing to get there and then when they checked my BP it was extremely high and they kinda freaked and kept checking it every 10 mins or so. I have always been like this – running late – but it wasnt until I was on the Vyvanse (since Dec. 2007) that I would have high BP readings ON occassion when going to the doctor, not always.

Do you know if before taking vyvanse you had pretty normal BP readings? I believe in the literature for the vyvanse it mentions it can raise your BP, but I would have to read it again – its been awhile since I read it. Of course with any med anymore, there is just a ton of stuff to be aware of of what the drug can do to you and our doctors DO NOT tell us all of the side effects. It sucks – in order to get help with like depression or anxiety or manic episodes, or even attention probs, we have to put up with the possibility of diarrhea, or constipation, or stroke or possibility of death! Whoa! Scary!
Well, good luck Rob! I’m not sure I have anything else to suggest for you. But if you go off of vyvanse, I would periodically check your BP several times a week, when your in stores and stuff, to ensure that your BP always reads normal after no longer being on vyvanse. Good luck! Tell us how it goes!
    Take care,
    Nancy

  24. Shel says:

Hello, all! I am 39, but have had the ADD diagnosis since I was 10. I have tried ritalin, concerta, adderall, stratrera, dexedrine, provigil, and focalin and nothing has helped. It was as if I was taking sugar pills, no matter the dosage. My doctor prescribed vyvanse earlier this year and it has been life altering. Like “Concerned Father”‘s brother, I always had problems with memory, lack of motivation, procrastination, and have not ever been able to clean house. In fact, the very prospect of even doing one chore around the house would cause me to feel extremely overwhelmed and panic. Since I’ve been taking vyvanse (at 100mg), all of these problems have disappeared. My house is tidy, I remember things I need to do, and have no problem being motivated to do what needs to be done. “Concerned Father” also mentioned that he “lost” his extreme sensitivity to emotional situations when he tried ADD meds and I have had the same reaction, but in a very positive way. I no longer feel emotionally overwhelmed to the point of tears by a crowd singing the national anthem, hearing the birthday song, or applause. It has helped me in my marriage because I can process situations without instantly reacting. It’s also helped me with all situations, in general, because it controls my impulsivity.

As far as addictivity, if I don’t take it for a few days, all the symptoms of my ADD come back which makes me feel demotivated, forgetful, overwhelmed by little tasks- hence, I feel “slow”. However, I don’t go through physical withdrawl symptoms which is what the makers of vyvanse are referring to when they state that the drug is “non-addictive”. ANY drug can be mentally addictive, if you have an addictive personality. Laxitives can be abused. But this drug is much harder to abuse because of the way it is released and can be stopped at any time without physical withdrawl symptoms.

My son (adopted grandson) is 17 and a senior in high school. He has been on ADD/ADHD medication since 4th grade and is currently taking Vyvance. What is the end-game, meaning how and when does he get off medication, or is this a life-time regimen? He had expressed interest in joining the military and was told he has to be off drugs for a year in order to be inducted into the Army, and even longer for the Marines. Should he experiment by taking drug holidays? Are there other resources to seek out?

  26. Angela says:

    Hello..

I am 33 years old and am currently taking methylin ER @ 40mg daily. I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT!!! I have tried to tell my doctor that it doesn’t feel like it works like I need it to. It makes me sleepy and HUNGRY! His response is “good that means youre having the right reaction to the medication” I cant be taking a medication that makes me drousy when I’m driving a vehicle ALL DAY. My son has ADHD and it was his Dr’s diagnosis that made me question if I had a problem. He has been on Vyvanse since day one…a little trial and error with the dosage but hes been at 50mg strong for a while now and he does REAL well with it. His pediatritian suggested talking to my Dr about it but I’m afraid my dr wont listen to me. Is it very affective with adults and how can I approach my MD about possibly taking Vyvanse? I REALLY love how it’s not as bad as ritalin in the sense of “getting high” cause that’s EXACLTY how i feel on my current prescription!
Thank you for ALL of the information you have given here!

  27. Daniel says:

    About abuse potential and Vyvanse.

So many of you do not understand the purpose of medications like Vyvanse. Its supposed to help you help yourself! It won’t fix you and it won’t prevent abuse. YOU have to fix yourselves and YOU have to not abuse it. Do not criticize something just because you are too irresponsible to use it correctly.

  28. noneya says:

Well I took Vyvanse today It made me feel great nice and hyper and very focused It’s just starting to wear off now after about 11 hours. Man thats a great drug.

  29. Scott says:

Vyvanse is not worth the trial! I was hooked on Adderall and then switched to Vyvanse (hoping it would ‘help me come off pills all together’). It did not! Now, I’m hooked on Vyvanse, been through a treatment program because of it, my wife divorced me, lost my job, etc… The problem is this – IT LEAVE YOU WITH NO MOTIVATION TO DO ANYTHING IN LIFE after you quit taking it!

  30. John Smith says:

    Check your facts.
    I’ve snorted Vyvanse.
    I’ve gotten high.

  31. Marsha says:

My 18 year old son who is dyslexic was put on Vyvance.

Once on Vyvance, he couldn’t eat and lost 35 lbs. He was up all night, was getting irritable. If he missed a dose he was either a zombie or angry and downright scary. I told his doctor, who can’t actually talk to me. So he went to see her. She UPPED his dose. So we took him to another doctor for a second opinion. The second doctor, told us the first doctor was known around town for prescribing “legal” drugs for drug addicts. Great.

Now we are working with him to get him off not only the pills, but to eat well by eliminating sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and gluten from his diet. It is amazing what food changes will do.

These are amphetamines. Remember when they told women in the 60s and 70s there was no problem and amphetamines would help them lose weight? Right. And then they ended up addicted to both the amphetamines and downers like Xanax to get to sleep.

Do you know that kids get up to $60 a pill on the street for these?

They don’t get that kind of money because the drugs are harmless or produce no highs.

  32. ab says:

WE ALL WANTED VYVANSE TO WORK. BUT HONESTLY I AM HIGHLY EDUCATED AND HAVE MUCH EXPERIENCE WITH ADHD DRUGS, AN NONE TRUELY WORK. THEY EITHER CRACK YOU UP TO BE MOTIVATED AT HYPERFOCUSING OR JUST KEEP YOU AWAKE.
NOT TO MENTION, THEY ALL CAN MAKE YOU FEEL QUITE AWFUL.

THIS IS THE MAIN REASON I REALLY HATE ALL THESE MEDICATIONS. THE WITHDRAWL, EVEN FROM THE LOWERST DOES. IT IS RIDICULOUS.

BEING FROM A FAMILY NUMEROUS PHYSICIANS, I FEEL I CAN TRUELY SAY ADHD DRUGS CAN HELPS…SOMETIMES..WHILE EQUALLY MAKING YOU FEEL AWFUL WITH INSOMNIA AND MOOD DISORDERS.

!!! HOWEVER, GREEDY SHIRE PHARMA, THIS IS STILL NOT THE ANSWER. YOU MAKE MONEY ON US, BUT IT IS REALLY SAD TO HAVE YOUR HOPES DIE WITH THESE FALSE PROMISES.

  33. Gavin says:

PARENTS, PLEASE READ – VYVANSE CREATES ADDICTIVE TENDENCIES IN CHILDREN

I feel like I need to address the whole idea of Vyvanse being “non-addictive” just because it can’t be snorted, injected, smoked, or heavily abused (more than 100 mg won’t get you much more than 70 mg). Addiction is a misleading term that also involves dependancy on the drug; you can take the prescribed dose and still be completely dependent on the drug to the point where you WILL go through withdrawal when you stop. You can be psychologically dependent too; little kids that grow up on amphetamines are especially susceptible to this.

I started on Ritilan at 16, and continued taking it until age 20. During that time on Ritilan, the medicine gradually made me so full of anxiety that I used other drugs to counteract that. I couldn’t stop taking the Ritilan because I was addicted to it, so I wound up just using other things with it, like weed and painkillers.

Long story short, I am 24 now, and clean of everything for 3 years. I feel absolutely fine, and am successful in what I do now. Needless to say; about 3 months ago, I was prescribed Vyvanse by my doctor, as my ADHD has been a little bit worse recently (probably due to less exercise in the winter). She knows I had very bad problems with addiction in the past, but it is (as you can see) marketed as “non-addictive.”

Needless to say, about 2 hours after taking my first pill, I knew I had been lied to. I got that same old good feeling I got from Ritilan, just 5 times as good as I remembered it, at least. So, for that month, I continued to take it. I never upped my dose; it was the side effects that got me. After a couple weeks, the drug started to hook me, and also made me crave a downer for the inevitable crash that left me feeling like an utter piece of sh_t for 6 hours. I started to drink after 3 year of sobriety, and after a month of all that, was able to stop myself before I got too out of hand; thank God.

This drug may not be “addictive,” but even somebody with a hint of anxiety of an addictive personality is going to go through some downs that are going to make them want to start drinking, smoking weed, taking xanax, vicodin, oxycontin, and then who knows what else? It’s a very slippery, and sometimes inevitably slippery slope… Especially when they are hooking them so young now-a-days.

ADHD can be a bit_h, but please beware of Vyvanse. I know there aren’t many options with ADHD; I know that; but, if nothing else works that isn’t a stimulant, I would try one of the new methylphenidate formulations like Concerta before I would do Vyvanse again. I personally actually wouldn’t ever do any stimulant again though.

For kids that are under age 16, I would really not recommend numbing their creativity with controlled-substance amphetamines like Vyvanse and Adderall, or with cocaine-like analogs like Methylphenidate. It isn’t worth it. Some kids might need it in high-school, but you are IRRESPONSIBLE and STUPID as a parent if you start your kid on AMPHETAMINES WITH A FANCY NAME at ages where they don’t even know what they want to be when they grow up yet. You are killing them. You are killing who they are inside by doing that. ADHD is not a disorder, and there are many books out now that depict how detrimental it is for a kid (or adult) with ADHD to be treated like they need to be fed pills to be normal, when in reality, they have a gift that can really be harnessed if taught how to use.

Check out some of the literature out there and try it out before pumping your kid full of speed, alright? I’m not saying that some kids don’t need meds, but all I’m saying is that you might want to actually examine what it is that you are doing to them. Actually, EVEN BETTER, before anyone puts their LITTLE KID on AMPHETAMINES, why don’t you just take a good 50 mg does yourself? That should give you a pretty good idea of what they’re going to be experiencing.

  34. Addy says:

I went looking on this site because I’ve grown concerened over my wifes and my own increase in dosage. We are both former meth/coke users, treated years ago and thought we were done with that scary dark place of our lives, but along comes this Vyvanse drug and it’s starting to look pretty scary and dark again around here again. She’s not the same on it, acts like a “tweeker”, showing all the same signs as the meth days. Picks at her skin, can’t sit still long enough to enjoy a quite night at home, always on the move, short, rude, obnoxious at times…not a real joy to be around…can’t imagine I am either, certainly not the next day, unless I ramp up and take it again. I just don’t like taking pills or being dependant on a drug, makes me feel like a drug addict again. To sleep, we take a Serequel and the next day the ride starts all over again. I don’t take it daily like she does, but when I do I notice a definate similar high to that of Meth. I also believe I’m getting a skin rash on the side of my face (looks like razor burn), typically gets worse the more I take. It makes me anxious and increases my desire to drink/smoke, not to mention have sex….with or without my wife (i.e. “jack off). Woopie, oh joy…acting like the I did back in our meth days, LOOOO SIIIIIIIR!. Back then, we would stay up all night, have mind blowing sex, clean the house, go on shopping sprees at 24 Hour Wall Mart, etc. Well, low and behold sports fans, the same behaviors are back with the Vyvanse and we’re losing the game of life again. Yea, we can drink like fish too, as Vyvanse seems to soak up the booze like a sponge. Only to wake up the next day with a tounge that feels desparate for water, swollen hands, and eyes that look like death. My wife and I are definately abusing the drug more times than I’d like to admit at this point. The come down is not the death march like that of Meth, thank god. I took some yesterday, but none today and true to form, I feel totally unmotivated, tired, depressed, have a ravenouse appitite (unlike that when I’m taken the drug), all much like those come down meth days. My tounge feels fat and each trip to the bathroom is not pleasant (i.e. shitting my pants, nice). We typically will take a pill and then if we’re going out, break open a pill and mix the drug with water or simply empty it out and take a swab with a finger and lick off the powder. I’m suprised we don’t snort it, but it seems that neither one of us want to feel we’re really doing “drugs”, which always used to be associated with “snorting”. Anyway, that’s all I have to say. The drug is addictive people……too much of a good thing can never be good I suppose. That’s all I have for now. Thanks to all your honest post, it helps to see that I’m not alone in my thinking that this is a fricking “drug” and it definately can be abused. TTFN.

  36. Dave says:

Vyvanse can still be abused this is proven in the drug liking studies. The FDA also said Vyvanse can be abused which is why it cannot be sampled. Shire tried to have the schedule changed but was rejected. May be a good drug but your statements are kind of misleading. My son takes Adderall XR.

iv been taking vyvanse 30mg for two months now . im 27 this is the first time i have ever takin add med. it has changed my life for the better. i noticed that i am calm i can focus well i dont get all the energy high everyone is talking about. i feel on task and i dont blurt out and say everything im thinking i listen when people talk.. i love it works well. and i dont think people can get high from it. well at least dont make me feel high. more calm then anything. i wish i would have had this med to help me in school when i was younger. i would have made better grades.

  38. Mike Hunt says:

Im pretty sure vyvanse will effect you if you snort it, i’ve snorted 2 and i definitly felt the effects, check up on your notes “doctor”.

  39. Hi ‘Mike’,
Yes, Vyvanse will work if you snort it – but not any differently than if you swallow it. Because it doesn’t get active until an enzyme in the body converts it to active medicine. This is different than the other ADHD medications which are active much more quickly if they are snorted – and thus are more addictive and abusable.

  40. Caterina says:

I am 45 yrs. old and have tried ritalin, concerta, adderall and most recently Ritalin ER. If I’m not on anything I’m pretty spazzy as my co-workers tell me.
However, over the years, (diagnosed 15 yrs ago) no matter the medication, the results have been disappointing. I am presently on a full dose of Ritalin ER and still exhibit all the symptoms of ADHD, or I just want to go to sleep. Remember, I’m on ADHD medication. Why then do I skip around in a conversation, sometimes remembering the point but more often going off on tangents and never returning to the point unless prompted verbally or with an eye roll. Why do I flucatate between utter exhaustion and altertness? Etc.
I wouldn’t mind being a zombie if my concentration was high, focus could be maintained, alertness was maintained with tasks getting completed without competing thoughts and time management could be a good phrase not the lack of it.
The post from Samantha dated March 6th, 2008 struck several chords.
Just as she struggled as a child, so did I.
However the irratibility and anger are still present with me.

I don’t drink or do any drugs and dislike medication too. In my younger days (20′s), someone let me try cocaine. It didn’t do anything to me except allow the most sensational level of concentration! That, and I wasn’t constantly drowsy. Everyone else loved the cocaine and wouldn’t stop talking but it didn’t have the same effect on me. After that time I didn’t do it because I’m not into illegal anything.

I feel as if my doctor thinks I’m out of my mind because I am always trying to figure out the right drug. Ritalin didn’t seem all that effective after being on it for awhile but i could stay awake. Concerta was the best but caused breathing issues. Adderall wasn’t strong enough and Ritalin ER isn’t the right dose.

If Samantha says she can keep her personality then that would be such a bonus. I wouldn’t mind being a zombie if I could just focus, concentrate, sit still, have a thought that I can follow to completeion and have success with time management.

Some things are learned aside from medication such as being tuned into what society thinks is normal and not blurting out socially inappropriate statements. The statements seem funny at the time but only to me! I’m working on that.

It’s only been 5 weeks on Ritalin ER. Should I mention Vyvanase? Is it amphetamine based? Those drugs do seem more effective than the other type (adderall).

Oh, most important: How long before I begin to feel the effects? An hour? 30 minutes? How long typically do the effects last and is there a tapering of the focus?

I work long hours in real estate and the biggest challenge is staying focused for a twelve hour day.
    Thanks so much!
    Cata

Thanks for the posts all of you in this collective group. We all want the same thing and hearing other people’s experiences sure helps.

  42. Alex says:

this is complete bullshit. vyvanse can be abused. all you have to do is take two 70mg pills. i hear a lot of people that say vyvanse is their favorite for recreational abuse. ive been taking it for over a year and YES im most definetly addicted. im actually physically and psychologically dependent on the drug. i cant relax w/o it. im 18. it took me from getting all Ds and Fs in school, to getting all As and Bs. i even became a math tutor. and than. the addiction was to much to handle, i dropped out with a 3.5gpa. now, for me, all vyvanse is, is misurable comfort. side effects become your comfort. so screw the jackass’ that say “its non addicting” and “its pro-drug”!!! BUT ON THE PLUS SIDE… vyvanse does help “75%” of teens stay drug free!!! well err… if by drug your excluding SPEED.

  43. B. Russell says:

Caterina, I must disagree. I’m 60 and raised 3 children with very severe ADD or ADHD. You DO develop a tolerance to being on stimulant medication after many years of it. People do on MOST medicines! I advise taking a 1 or 2 week vacation from your med (during your vacation.) You will be hungrier and sleepier. After 5 or 6 days, your ADD or ADHD symptoms will return. If ADD is your only medical problem, hopefully folks can stay off the med for a full week or two, and then they will not need to continually increase their dose or find a new medicine. THESE MEDICINES ARE FOR SEVERE ADD OR ADHD. They are EXTRAORDINARILY helpful FOR THESE DISORDERS. THEY SHOULD NEVER BE USED BY ANY FOOL WHO DOES NOT TAKE HIS/HER MEDICINE AS PRESCRIBED.

  44. WilliamB says:

    Dr. Kenny,

I sincerely appreciate your efforts here. I am a 34 yr old male who has been on Vyvanse now for a few months [now 70MG/d]. No other Rx history. I tried to tell my Psyc that I can feel this med wearing off around 2 PM – 3 PM and I am constantly “wanting” more. Craving more even. I expressed concern that I do not want to become addicted, nor do I want to spend half of my day everyday always thinking of wanting more. I dont have a history with drug abuse, but have been addicted to nicotine most all of my life, and recently quit. I am not lying when I say that I crave more Vyvanse. I am afriad of waking up one day and realize I have a real problem. My question is… given the nature of this *slow* long acting pro-drug, what may be my alternatives to help treat my ADHD symptoms without so much overhead as this feeling? I am not sure my doc really understood me, and was reluctant to change me to something else. Just suggested that as long as I wasnt getting ‘high’ from Vyvanse the feeling was normal and common. I know the ‘high’ feeling she discussed, but it went away after a few short days. I am worried #1 I am working myself into a corner here, and #2 I am afraid there are not too many options left that may work well for me. I had 1 week of life altering changes in my behavior and thinking and lifted the fog of impulsive thoughts, scrambing ideas and forgetfulness, and then it left me… it left me chasing that moment of clarity ever sense. Now I do nothing but want more half way through the day. What are my options doc? Please make a suggestion.

  45. William,
Even though Vyvanse is a great medicine – and it’s new – if it doesn’t seem right for you for any reason – ask to try a different one. You can either try Adderall XR – which is still in the amphetamine category, or you can use Concerta or another methylphenidate medicine. Also – there is Strattera – the non stimulant.
If the vyvanse issues don’t go away – consider starting the trial and error process of finding a different one.
    Dr. Kenny

    Dr. Kenny,

This is a followup to post #93 on March 22, by WilliamB. The haunting sense of “want” and the inner whispering of “I need” more medication was unyielding. I finally asked my GP for Wellbutrin Rx, and on the 3rd day +, all of these thoughts and feelings have virtually vanished! I have been trying to pay close attention to any placebo effect, but something is working in this med already. It induces a cyclic wave of high, low indifferent, and melancholic states of emotion [all in a single day] and I am grappling with now on Day 6 or 7, however to me I can cope with this better for the time being than with the feeling of being an addict, or becoming an addict of Vyvanse and being ‘without’ or live half a day in the world of ‘brain fog’. Only other downside to all this has been that I have lost about 8 lbs in 3 months since I began treatment, when I am already slightly underweight. Weight loss to me is considered a negative side effect. (This message is just an FYI and my own personal perspective)

  48. Alan says:

    Concerned parents,

I have taken Vyvanse (50mg) for about 6 months now. I’m a 28 year old male. It works great for me and it’s better than any other drug I have tried. I would openly recommend it to any adult that needs an extra push, has trouble focusing, significantly increasing productivity, or wants to curve the appetite in order to control weight…yeah that’s right, some doctors prescribe this stuff for weight loss. I can go 18-20 hours before I start to even think about food. This stuff is also great for channeling creativiy. I swear that Vyvanse allows me to tap into areas of my brain that I don’t regularly utilize.

That being said, I really can’t imagine a child being prescribed Vyvanse. It’s just way too intense. I’m not a doctor and I’m not here to slam Vyvanse, because I love it. It’s possible Vyvanse could do wonders for your child, however it’s really not clear to me. Parents, I suggest you try Vyvanse for 1 week before prescribing it to your child. I guarantee 90% of you will probably change your mind about prescribing it to a child…and I wouldn’t be surprised if you decided to stay on it!

  49. Haley says:

As a 16 year old who has taken Vyvanse for about an year now, I must say I have developed a tolerance for the medication.
I started with 20 mg, but I’ve been on 50 mg for the past 9 months or so now.
I eat less than before I started taking Vyvanse, but my eating habits have not changed for like an year. I’ve also had the same sleep cycle as I did before I was prescribed to Vyvanse.
For the past 2 months or so, I’ve been noticing that my medication wears off around 1 PM. I take my medication at 7:45, so that’s about 5 hours and 15 minutes or so.

Also, you can get high off of Vyvanse. It’s a very euphoric feeling, more of a mental high. But you also get that weird feeling, and your body is less sensitive to touch.
Honestly, I would say I’m quite addicted to this medication, and I’m planning to stop getting prescribed to this medication after my next doctor’s visit.

Personally, I would not recommend children taking Vyvanse, or any kind of ADD/ADHD drug. It’s too dangerous for kids to take. My father, who used to be a cocaine addict before going to rehab, took a 20 mg pill once to see what exactly I was taking. Even he said that this drug is very strong; not something kids should be taking.
Like Alan said, I would suggest you try Vyvanse for a week before prescribing it to your child.

The only benefit I’ve gotten from this medication is better grades, and I lost weight from eating less (which is not very healthy, I guess.)
Since I’ve been prescribed to Vyvanse, I’ve lost quite a bit of my creativity and my personality.

  50. Mike says:

I started taking vyvanse one year ago only because I decided to give college another chance after being diagnosed with ADD. It works great but is very addictive. I requested a lower dose from 50 to 40mg because Its so potent. When I found that sex is out of this world while on vyvanse, I started abusing the drug and taking 100 to 150mg at a time to get that euphoric feeling. This feeling would last for 8 to 10 hours and when it starting wearing off I would take another. WRONG IDEA! I ended up in the emergency room with HEART ATTACK symptoms!

Take it from me, YOU CAN TAKE TOO MUCH! IT CAN KILL YOU!! IT IS ADDICTIVE! Just read the warning labels, it says it can cause sudden death from heart attack or stroke.

For Gods sake please to put your kids on this medication. It is in their nature to act as they do. Just do the best you can raising them correctly and be happy with the outcome.

Vyvanse is a new drug and whoever takes this drug is the guinea pig. This drug is in clinical trials(general population), which means they are waiting for your results to see what the side effects actually are.

    DONT BE THE GUINEA PIG!!
