I am 45 and was just recently diagnosed with ADD. So I have had this all my life and didn't know it. I just knew that something was wrong. I self-medicated with alchohol and street drugs, mostly marijuana to escape the pain. Then at age 30 I got sober through a spirit filled life. Last year my depression and self-loathing was so extreme that I almost did not make it through. I was talking candidly to a new friend about how much I hated myself, and for no apparent reason. He said that he knew exactly how I felt and that he had tried something called Vyanse that changed his life. I am super sensitive to medications and did not want to try it. But my friend insisted. I did it. It was 70 mg. It changed my life!!! I had no idea that a pill could make me feel what most normal people have felt their whole lives. It was euphoric at first, but what was most profound is that my deep depression and self-hate was completely gone! Just like that! Gone! My mind was clear. My thoughts stopped racing. And there was a gentle happy feeling deep inside that was for no apparent reason. I feel like this med is nothing short of a miracle. I found a doctor. Asked for 60 mgs and have been perfectly sane, grounded, focused, and kinda happy for the past 3 months. At first the effects were a little strong, bruxism, insatiable thirst, and difficulty falling asleep. But I stuck with it because the depression was gone and I knew that I would level out eventually. Now I am going into 90 days of 60 mgs per day and I feel totally NORMAL. All undesirable side effects gone. I miss the first few days of euphoria and magical bliss that I experienced in the beginning, who wouldn't; but I am so completely satisfied with who I am now that I just had to share my story. I cannot believe that I lived for 45 years in misery, coping and surviving one day at a time; when all I had to do was adjust my brain chemistry. I am so grateful! My advice to those having less than positive experiences on lower doses is to go for the 60's or 70's. You could be amazed! Good luck to all of you!!!

I take Vyvanse and have taken lots of others before that....well, it seems to work best when you first start taking it...

I take days off during the month so it's more like my brain just started on it...when you start again.

Try to make sure you get a solid 8 hours of sleep...and a good amount of protein during your day. Sleep and nutrition are very important.

You could add an amino acid...Tyrosine...and that that might help. Plus take a vitamin daily...B-complex especially and Magnesium too is important...which you can get alot from Chocolate. (magnesium)

I have notice that once you find the right amount side effect go away I thought going down a little bit would eliminate the side effects but in fact the opposite 40mg I had but a 50mg got rid of them. Also I do not think this should be percribed for kids because you really have to manage yourself water intake eating three meals a day and taking vitiamn. And don't let yourself get constipated. Really got to be healthy to watch the way you react to it
Also easy to stop smoking and slow my drinking greatly and I do mean greatly.

Thanks for the idea of adding short acting adderal in the afternoon. I could also ask my
d dr. to up the vyvanse to 40, so either way its something to think about. Abby

Ha, another crackhead forum.

You guys are drug addicts, I'm on vyvanse myself, 40mg once a day, and I really have ADD, I've been on it for 2 weeks now, and I already don't feel the kick in the morning, I actually barely feel it now, but IT IS WORKING.

You don't have to feel it work, if you are chasing that feeling, you are doing nothing more than chasing the Dragon like a heroin addict, you will never catch the dragon.

Relax, it's working, I don't feel it as much, but I know it's working because my life has changed, and keeps changing, I'm able to quit smoking and keep up, and the amazing thing is that I can smoke one now and then, and never go back to smoking more!

Junior,
Thank you for sharing your story. I'm so glad to hear that you are doing better. And thank you for your service!
When you wrote about pilot school - I wanted to point you to this other article that may be of interest to you - it relates to having ADHD and being a pilot: http://www.addadhdblog.com/adhd-medication-and-commercial-pilots/#8d2a8 It may be different for you in the military, but it's worth thinking about!

I hope the FAA doesn't look down on that type of success.
I think I will a better pilot for getting that help.
and safer, I even drive less recklessly. I'm more Focused and Patience.

I now understand Slow is Fast and Fast is Slow.

Im a solider who has been diagnosed with PTSD and Depression. Since I got back from Iraqi the treatment Ive been on Help me to open my eyes to realize the other thing that made me more expectable to these problem. I asked my Doctor is it possible that I could have ADHD because I have been reading about disorders; And he said yes if you had it before you went to war you can possible have. So I decide to go see a personal doctor with my Medicare issuance; after talking with her about how i feel she prescribed me Vyvance 30 mg which since I've been using has help me greatly with my mental state with my PTSD, Depression, and ADHD; which i think the other condition were more likely to happen to me in the future because of my untreated ADHD as a child. Now I'm in a Pilot Ground school in College to be a pilot and everything feels so easy and I'm on top the upper 2% of my class. I have open my Life up to Possibility of greatest.

Abby - it is probably better to take short acting adderall with the vyvanse - because they are in the same group of medicines.
When it comes to your vyvanse - why not try to get your doctor to increase the dose?
